I think this upcoming season is the make or break season for StanBo for me. I know many of you will say "Why hasn't it been sooner", but I'm giving the guy a legit chance. Drafting and development wise, we haven't even seen many of his picks come up through the system yet. Olsen was his first draft year and so far he has 3 of 8 getting a shot in the NHL (Kruger full time, Olsen towards the end of the season, Pirri spot duty but looking strong). His next years draft he has a lot of younger guys who are still developing, mainly in college. Last years draft was great with McNeill, Danault, Clendening and Saad all receiving high grades as well as Shaw becoming a everyday NHLer too.

Pretty sure that Pirri was a Tallon draft.

Patrick Roy won a Mem Cup as a coach.

Thats not NHL experience as a coach.

Sure he has the experience as a player. No doubt there, but the junior level is far different from the NHL.

Stan has done about jack shit to impress me. Lucky for him Tallon and Dudley dug him out of the Cap mess. Unlucky for him they treated Dale like shit and Wilson told them to **** OFF for it, IE Niemi/Hjarlmarsson.

Now, in his FIRST full year of the draft, Mcneil, Saad, Shaw, could be very good players. Getting Kevyn Hayes could be a good move. But those are YEARS from showing how much. Right now, with 7 mil in cap space, they got Morrisson and Oduya. Yup.

Last years draft looks good for now, but those players have to develop. I have high hope for McNeil,a potential big strong centerman.

Stans work last summer and the previous summer with his various free agent aquisitions = FAIL. Mayers was ok but the rest were off the scrap pile. I wonder if Montador was'nt battling injuries and if healthy could be better.

Trading he's brough in Frolik who I still believe at 23 hasn't even touched his prime yet for Skille. Stahlberg and prospects for Versteeg and Sweatt who wasn't going to sign with the Hawks isn't bad. Leddy for Barker will eventually be a steal (Johnsson was in there supposedly).

Sure there have been some bad moves (Olesz, Montador, O'Donnell, Kitchen) but again, knowing what this team's needs are (Defense, 2nd line center, physical players, help in goal possibly) this will be a good indication if he is pro-active in fixing them, or willing to wait it out and hope his guys develop enough to jump in.

Kruger, Olsen, and Pirri were Tallon picks.

Clendening was abolutely worthless in the World Juniors against Canada. Just terrible.

Shaw. Love him. The rest? Remains to be seen.

As far as Nick Leddy... great skills moving the puck. Has absolutely sucked as a defender. But part of that is due to how the coach utilized him.

Stalberg would be great in the playoffs if the Hawks played Columbus in four rounds.

Junior does not know how to build a playoff team.

we got Morrisson, while Pheonix acquired Vermette.

Jr doesn't even know how to acquire playoff depth at the TDL.

Listening to his exit interview along with Q is just disheartening. Completely.

There's probably a very good reason why it was Morrison and not Vermette. Vermette has 2 years remaining on his contract after this season while Morrison is a UFA.

While it's convenient to say good bye to Morrison's sorry ass and 1.5 million cap hit, McDouche Silo and Junior did not have the balls to convince Rocky that Vermette and 2 more years @ 3.5 was the right thing to do. Especially after the rumoured Rocky melt down during the losing streak.

The Stanbo apologists(As opposed to capologists that can't/won't get qualifying offers out on time) will question whether Columbus would have made the same offer to the Hawks. It's the same offer that got Oduya.

I think that is a valid point though, Hawks wanted Grossman but the price within the conference was too high. Philly nabbed him on the cheap. There's no telling what the Blue Jackets wanted from the Hawks, you don't usually see division rivals dumping players to each other for good reason.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but how do you figure the Wings lost in round 1 in 07-08 when they won the Cup?

While I buy that some what, I don't really buy it.

And Larmer I knew what he had left, which ironically would have been perfect while Mcneil and Hayes developed. But, alas, he wants one of the best RW's in the world to play Center. I got it. He's a fucking idiot.

I messed it up too some how but the fact that NO team, other than the Wings have even been CLOSE again, after winning it, is a clear fact.

Still no excuse for the Hawks to go out in round 1 this year. They had the Cap room and for whatever reason chose not to address team needs, but rather plug in rejects on the cheap. We heard all the rumors McD's meddling, Stan's ineptitude, to Rocky not allowing new sizable contracts. Whatever the true reason they have no problem increasing ticket prices without improving the team. They are wasting the productive healthy years of the core.
