I think Gil was brought in for depth more than anything in NASH. Suter I think told NASH he wanted to see what moves they were going to make for the playoff push.

Gil was a good pickup, kinda biased but wish the Hawks would've targeted him. Good on the PK, block shots - but most important down low/in corners. Will match up well vs VAN and their cycling down low.

The Dman I could see if NASH moves one, would be Ellis for some offense.

I agree, that's EXACTLY what we need. Bad...

i wanted Gill too, but i also wouldnt mind Suter!! I loved his uncle back in the day...!

wouldnt mind Kubina, besides one brain fart that happened to be against my team, hes not much of a repeat offender and he's good. I'd like him if it is all we can get.

He would def help depth but he isn't near the same player he used to be. 2nd and 5th I actually don't like but hey when teams are paying second rounders for bottom pairing blueliners who are worse than Kubina then the market has spoken.

Hes a right handed shot (we need that) which means he would probably play with Leddy on the second pairing.

Keith/Seabs

Leddy/Kubina

Hammer/Montador

Thats not bad when healthy. Its better than what we have now. AndI think you could swap Kubina up and down those pairings as Q likes to do.

Its a good option for the Hawks but Kubina alone isn't going to solve all the defensive issues..but it def helps.

ps cant believe i am hearing people say they wanted Gill. give your heads a shake. first of all hes a lefty...we cant add anymore fucking lefties to the blueline secondly he is 36 and done. He has been horrible the last 3 years as a stay at home blueliner. Big yes...old and done..yes.No lefties either!!!

Why? He's solid below his own circles...has 122 blocks in 53gms...only a couple behind Seabrook and Hjarllmarsson. He's good on the PK.

Two things the Hawks need

Kubina is a better option than Gill, fits the Hawks better. Not sure what the hype is behind Gill anymore, maybe would have liked him if we didn't already have 3 other #7 defenseman.

I guess if being 14th in the NHL in blocked shots, playing about 16min a game - 4min a game on the PK in MTL (which was 1st in the league) makes him a number 7 dman....I guess thats what he is.

Not to mention his leadership, 100+ playoff games experience and a Ring.

Its actually not hard to block shots if you want to block shots. Come the playoffs all our blueliners will be blocking shots more and more. If all you want to ***** about O'Donell being a pilon thank god we all have been saved the pains of hearing about Gill. The guy can't skate.

You are really good at throwing out the good numbers for players pmx but you often omit the bad ones. Like Gills 53 give aways which trumps any current Hawks blueliner by a mile. For a team like the Hawks whos blueline has trouble in that department already I dont think adding Gills give aways would be something the Hawks would have needed. Ill take a blueliner who has less giveaways than one who blocks more shots. Thats just me though we all differ in opinion.

And again where do you fit his left handed game? Would have to either play 2 lefties together (which always creates problem for this team when being forced to resort to it) or you have to scratch one of our top 3 lefties.

Team has too many lefties esp when the bottom pairing is concerned and not enough right handed blueline depth.

Gill would have made a good depth option and reserve for the bottom pairing if we already didn't have 30 of them. The shot blocking is nice but the rest of Gills game is garbage. As for the PP that's on Q for using Leddy there when he has had better options when the blueline was healthy.

Sure he's slow. How fast was Sopel? What was his strength during the cup run? The PK and and shot blocking. Those are 2 things Gil excels at. Never said he would improve the transition game.

I listed the stats where he would improve the Hawks - on the PK. But if coming from MTL (who is the best PK team in the league)...and I would say playing 4min a game on that PK (which was 2nd most PK mins avg in the NHL)....may help the Hawks who are near the bottom there? Take Leddy of the PK? I think he and Hjarllmarsson would have made a good pairing on the PK.

I could be wrong, but wasn't he the matchup vs other teams top lines in MTL's playoff run 2 years ago?

And the good ol' giveaway stat that playoff run? 18gms - 10gva That regular season, he had 76. He's a pretty smart player/proven playoff performer.

In 22gms that year...Norris Keith had 25, Seabrook 24, Hjall 21, Soupy 20.

Nope you are right he had a good playoffs with the Habs 2 years ago. And you are right again his give away numbers are lower in the playoffs.

Don't compare him to Sopel though or I will fist fight you.

Kubina can play PP also and has a good number of blocked shots at a 100 this season. Hits more than Gill also far less give aways and more take aways and is a right hander. Kubina is the better all around blueliner and if the Hawks can manage to nab him its a move that makes 10 times more sense than Gill. So it's all really moot right now. Lets see if Kubina happens or not.

Yes, I would like Kubina as well.

Just saying...Gill isn't a number 7 defenceman that the Hawks "already" have.

Agreed 100%

Gill has regressed a lot the past 2 years PMXC.

Well, getting a 2nd rnd pick and a prospect (who was a 2nd round pick not too long ago) leads me to believe Poile/Trotz think otherwise

Knowing they really didn't need Gil tends to make me think there is more coming from them. Either they don't think Suter is going to resign, and or they have something in the mix for a bonafied forward.

There's no way they can trade Suter, IMO. He's too important if they're going to make any sort of deep playoff run.

I wonder if Ellis to EDM for Hemsky? That would be a mistake I think, with Suter/Weber UFA's. Good for CHI though
