Well, getting a 2nd rnd pick and a prospect (who was a 2nd round pick not too long ago) leads me to believe Poile/Trotz think otherwise

And many people in hockey media believe it was an over-payment, much like many other deals this deadline.

There's no way they can trade Suter, IMO. He's too important if they're going to make any sort of deep playoff run.

I wonder if Ellis to EDM for Hemsky? That would be a mistake I think, with Suter/Weber UFA's. Good for CHI though

I doubt they trade him also but the Preds aren't getting out of the second round. They never will until they find some offense. Their system is great and all as is their defense core buts its never going to get them out of the 2nd round in this NHL. Will continue to get them into the playoffs and give the first 2 rounds a good game but they aren't going anywhere further than that until they start adding some offense.

Wether the Preds want nothing out of Suter and gamble that they have a legit cup shot with him this season is up to them (i think it would be a mistake). I don't think they are close to a cup let alone a conference final no matter what sort of roll they get on. They don't have the offense and its not a team where it is going to magically appear. Even the hard core cup winning trap teams of the past (ie the Devils) had a stronger offense than the Preds. Preds just dont have it. JVR isn't going to light that up either but its a starting point.

Its not an overpayment if/when you acquire a player that fits a need/role - regardless of what "media" expert think. It was the cost to get a player of his ability.

All I know is they have no need for Gil. #2 PP in the league. Top defense, unless something else goes on it makes zero sense. Especially when you add in they gave up Geoffrian, probably ahead of all the Hawks prospects at this time.

Will they be a better team next year or following years without either of them and without the picks i am sure which would also be involved? At least they would get something in return that isn't that bad. Zero return is the worst return of all.

They aren't getting past the second round. Whats the point? I know that "anything can happen in the playoffs". Its not going to happen with the Preds. Get what you can for Suter now in my opinion. They are the same team that has been in the playoffs the last 2 years. They have done nothing to add onto those teams (unless you think Gill is the magic answer). They will find the same results as they have.

I agree with you pmx the Preds probably wont deal him. I disagree with you though because I think it would be a huge mistake.

I can see the otherwise also. If the preds do trade suter just to get a deal because they don't think they have a legit cup shot it sends a bad message to the team

They'll still be able to get something for him after the season is over at the draft. Or they can re-sign Suter and let someone sign Weber to an offer sheet and load themselves with 1st round picks for the next half decade.

True that could happen Ton. The return up to the draft and free agency opening day won't be as good as a return as it would be now but it would be a return. Wouldn't be a Suter value return.

errrrrr not sure it would be in the Preds best interest to gamble on the offer sheet stuff. Not a player I think they want another team dictating his salary if they plan on re-signing him (which I am sure they do). Def would probably get a shit load of picks though as the offer sheet would be large. Would probably be in the Preds best interest to get that contract extension done before another team walks in and messes shit up.

All up the Preds. It actually wouldn't shock me if they managed to find a way to resign both Suter and Weber. League is so unpredictable sometimes. Pekka also gets his 7 million per year extension kicked in next season so hes going to turn to crap anyways.

Hockey Central just reported Kubina to the flyers for two picks. Good, I didn't want him anyway.

He had a no trade clause? Kubina? Whatever.

I would assume it has to be better picks than what gills and grossman cost. 1st wouldn't be out of the question or a 2nd this year and a 2nd next. Probably a 1st rounder though if there was a bidding war. If that is the case glad stan wasn't involved also.

So grossman May have cost more than Kubina did. Gill May have also as those prospects back to the habs could be good ones.

What a strange league we have here.

Been hearing a 2nd (conditional) and 4th ('13 draft) from Philly to TB for Kubina. Hmm that might not have been a bad trade for the 'Hawks, but who knows what else might be in the works that one of those picks might have been a part of. Oh well, perhaps there is some validity to the 'Hawks looking at Oduya and Clark.
