Steve Montador has been activated off injured reserve, in addition, Brandon Bollig was sent back to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League in order to open up a roster spot for Montador.

Bollig, 26, appeared in 11 games for the Blackhawks this season but did not register a point. The enforcer complied 40 PIM's and averaged 5:31 TOI per game.

Montador has not played an NHL game since March 27, 2012. Last season he had a total of five goals, nine assists and a plus-4 rating in 52 games. He will not dress against the Colorado Avalanche tonight.

With this move, the Blackhawks have decided to carry eight defenseman on the roster. Good move? Or bad move?

Joel Quenneville seem's to like the idea:

"Defense is a position where you love depth," Quenneville said. "I think this year we've utilized all six in the lineup over the course of a game where everybody gets more minutes than maybe in the past, a little bit more shared minutes. I think the more you get, the better you're going to play.

"I think the first seven (defensemen) we're playing to date are playing extremely well. To have to sit one out right now is always a tough decision. They're deserving of playing. We'll see with (Montador) working his way in is something we'll measure." [ESPN]

With the way Quenneville likes to rotate the lines, giving him another tool to throw in there might just drive every single fan crazy.

My hope, a couple of games for Montador to showcase him as healthy and then send him packing bringing Bollig back up.

No... please leave Bollig down in the AHL. Forever and ever.

Ummm, we seem to be doing fine without an older, injury prone player coming back and replacing a younger player with future potential.

Montador can go far far away too.

Mayers, although old, is still a better player than Bollig. No need for them both.

Oh, I will not argue that point that Mayers is a better player at this stage of his career. Can Bollig become that future player?

This was my exact thought. Lots of teams are always looking for veteran defensemen at the trade deadline.

They're both useless... at least Bollig can fight (sort of?) and brings a little bit of energy. In reality, this is a very minor move any way you look at it. The Hawks aren't losing much here, whether it was Mayers or Bollig as the odd man out.

He can fight, when the linesmen let him.

I think he is a good thrower. Has a great upper cut that seemingly a lot of guys don't seem to know about.

Im not a big fan of fights. At least the planned ones. Im not sure they fire up the team as much as people think. Sticking up for a teammate, sure go for it.

if Stan can somehow pawn monty off on someone for a bag of pucks I will all hail Stan. I assume there is some other weird contract or cba reason for this which saves them money? or he can play a game then retire or something. what was the deal with pietro and ltir?

Someone has to be willing. Given that FLA is last in defense, they might end up being our dance partners again.

Teams out there do need defensive help but dont expect anything of a return. Maybe a 5th rounder if lucky. I really don't even know if the Hawks need to play him. Sit him in the press box.. it's not going to hurt the team doing so. Hurts the team more giving him ice time right now. The rest of the team is game fit and the pairings are working. Don't mess with that shit to showcase a guy that's not going to get a return that is worth it.

Worst case scenerio place him on waivers and try to get him on the farm and if he gets claimed eat whatever you need to eat from his salary (unless the new CBA is all fancy and shit which I still don't understand).

With Shaw and Sharp going down tonight, think they might call Bollig back up? Or maybe Ben Smith?

Bollig can't fill the roles of the players that went down.

You know... as much as I LOVE to suggest it and people question him...

The Hawks have the playoff berth in the bag already... maybe it's time to see what Beach can do?

Having Shaw and Sharp potentially out makes the callup that more important.... perfect audition for Beach.

I wouldn't mind seeing Beach called up. Morin or Hayes would be alright as well.

Morin would probably be the "ideal" callup.

But the circumstances as it stands would let you believe that calling up Beach to see what he can do would be worth it.
