i also dont know what others are seeing in saad that im missing. i think hes been solid and has a good future but im not seeing guys like sharp expendable because of saad. not yet anyways. maybe down the road for sure. pretty bold to be pencilling saad in as a future sharp right now.

If sharp goes that frees up 5.9 mil in cap hit (less the new CBA does something stupid). I see bolland being a cap casualty as well which clears up 3.375 when his contract is up. It might even take Hossa to keep the youth around, I don't know.

Now you watch your mouth!

Take a look. How do you expect to keep Leddy, Kruger (maybe), Stalberg, Bickell, Hammer, and Crawford in the next two years, with the cap going down to 64 mil next year?

What I am seeing isn't about which players I like and don't like, I am looking at the money and I just continually see Sharp as the odd man out. I see Bolland going when his contract is up too unless he really starts to produce.

Well....RFA's get offered a qualifying offer of 110%

So Kruger just needs to be qualified for 1mil...Leddy the same. They'll be restricted for 4-5 more years respectively.

Right now, Bickell and Stalberg are the 2 that they need to "worry" about. Bickell shouldn't command that much and I think a solid 3rd line player in the league. I don't think teams are going to be salivating to get/pay him top 6 money.

Stalberg is the one I think teams can/will be. He'll probably be gone after this year, unfortunately.

Sharp will be here. NTC, he's a face of this franchise. He's signed...no worries on him leaving.

The others...simply matter based on who's developed to replace them.

Bolland - with Shaw and Kruger...then Daneault....he could be expendable. With his injuries too.

Hjarllmarsson - depends on Clenending, Johns development. Olsen as well. And what Nik wants money wise.

Crawford - without much in the pipeline...don't really see them letting him go.

Those last 3 are 2yrs away. Other salary can be shed/moved (Frolik, Roszival - 4.5mil there...and if Bolland isn't back - another 3.3mil)

Hawks are in a very good position with prospects that can come up...and I trust Stan not to overpay someone to get in trouble to lose a key player.

Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, Seabrook, Keith, Lalonde - aren't going anywhere unless they ask/want

Is Lalonde still in the plans for the future? It seems he's been passed already by a few players and hasn't really showed that he could be a decent NHLer?

Well firstly because we have no idea what the Hawks are gonna do with the amnesty buyouts this offseason or next offseason. But more importantly because secondly all we know right now is that despite the record half-season revenue, attendance, and TV ratings this season is already garnering that next's season's cap is contractually locked in at $64 mil. After 2013-14 though it's back to being fair game for 2014-15 and since fans didn't make the NHL "pay" post-lockout this season I suspect they won't in 2013-14 either which should translate into the cap going right back up. The whole lockout was an exercise in ineffectual asshattery and I expect that excepting next season's mandated amount the cap will keep rising just like the years post-2004/05 lockout. Even with the struggling teams the NHL hockey as a business is doing VERY well.

You only have to worry about the RFAs at the end of this season and Stalberg as a UFA. Hawks still have a lot of players who are contracted through 2013-14---you worry about them after that season when it just so happens the cap should rise again for 2014-15 and after assessing who's expendable if any prospects still on ELCs have performed.

What?? Lalande isn't going to make it here??? Don't tell Grimson that...

Bickell's a UFA as well

So is Rozsival, Mayers...(Not that they're a big deal...but in the sense that there's 2.5mil free)

I see Mayers sticking around as long as he takes the cheap paycheck. Rozsival...big question mark for me

Rozsival is on pace for a 44 point (full) season and +69... if he keeps it up he'll be in line for a $5 million dollar raise! lol

I could see Mayers hanging up the skates after this season, especially if it ends with a visit from Lord Stanley. I don't think he has much left.

Another positive thing to note is that while the Hawks are RIGHT up against the 50-contract limit at 49 (I think?), this total already includes the inactivated ELCs for several key prospects who will be coming out of the Jrs. once their seasons end this spring, i.e., Danault, Carruth, McNeill. So there's no having to find room for them under the limit as opposed to last year when it got a little 50-contract tight last spring/summer and Stan had to jettison some prospects like Rensfeldt and Hoefflin. The prospects we'd want to already be signed developmentally already are except for Alex Broadhurst as the Hawks will have to decide to sign him or not this spring as he hits the 2-yr mark for a 2011 Draftee playing in the Jrs. and the ones we expect to be signed later on we still have time for.

So there's room to bring back Makarov

Negative. Hawks can fail on European prospect development with their newer, shinier Russian in Shalunov!

No dice mister! Alex Broadhurst has had a a FABULOUS developmental year with London! He's a 2011 Draftee playing in the CHL---Stan's gotta sign him or lose him this spring/summer.
