Disgusting. A disgrace. I would not have blamed anyone for leaving the United Center, or turning off their TV after seeing Marian Hossa carted off on a stretcher and seeing the Blackhawks skate shorthanded as a result of a disgraceful hit delivered by Raffi Torres. Coach Quenneville will most-likely be fined for his post-game comments, but he was only stating what every decent human being is thinking. The truth.
"It was a brutal hit," Quenneville said. "I saw exactly what happened. It was right in front of me. How four guys missed it was hard. The refereeing tonight was a disgrace."
The Blackhawks did release a statement on Hossa's condition with some encouraging words:
"Marian Hossa suffered an upper-body blow in the first period of tonight's game. After initial evaluation on the ice he was taken by ambulance to the hospital for further testing, which yielded encouraging results. He has been released from the hospital and we are monitoring him closely at home. We anticipate a full recovery in a timetable yet to be determined."
Soured by the loss of Hossa, there were actually many positives in this game. Michael Frolik actually produced something, Corey Crawford kept the team in the game as well as a bit of toughness going after Mike Smith, and Brent Seabrook continued to show why he is the best defenseman currently playing in the NHL.
