Disgusting. A disgrace. I would not have blamed anyone for leaving the United Center, or turning off their TV after seeing Marian Hossa carted off on a stretcher and seeing the Blackhawks skate shorthanded as a result of a disgraceful hit delivered by Raffi Torres. Coach Quenneville will most-likely be fined for his post-game comments, but he was only stating what every decent human being is thinking. The truth.

"It was a brutal hit," Quenneville said. "I saw exactly what happened. It was right in front of me. How four guys missed it was hard. The refereeing tonight was a disgrace."

The Blackhawks did release a statement on Hossa's condition with some encouraging words:

"Marian Hossa suffered an upper-body blow in the first period of tonight's game. After initial evaluation on the ice he was taken by ambulance to the hospital for further testing, which yielded encouraging results. He has been released from the hospital and we are monitoring him closely at home. We anticipate a full recovery in a timetable yet to be determined."

Soured by the loss of Hossa, there were actually many positives in this game. Michael Frolik actually produced something, Corey Crawford kept the team in the game as well as a bit of toughness going after Mike Smith, and Brent Seabrook continued to show why he is the best defenseman currently playing in the NHL.

BLACKHAWKS THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Brent Seabrook

2. Corey Crawford

3. Michael Frolik

Hossa is out of the hospital and at home. Let's hope there is no concussion.

Well....saw (and spoke) to The Count in the Stadium Club....

After tonights game I no longer know what off sides is or why a puck can be in the offensive zone and suddenly be whistled and placed in the defensive zone. Not going to say this was the worst officiated game I have seen (has nothing to do with the outcome), but based on all of the other series I am not so sure I want to watch the rest of these playoffs.

All I know is, I saw my Hossa get injured by an illegal hit. All I can say is Raffi Torres better ask if he can somehow join the witness protection program, because I am very good at finding people.

That bug-eyed moron piece of shit have been doing these sort of hits all his career and somehow been overshadowed by another moron in Cooke. I have an odd feeling that he won't get the book thrown at him, he'll get a token 2-3 game suspension.

Thanks. I wish it were too. I just hope Hossa is okay. Though someone beating the shit out of Torres next game might also bring up spirits.

after well over 1000 NHL games live in numberous cities, I can say this was the worst officiated game I've ever been too.

This will be my last year spending money on the NHL. They do not deserve my hard earned money.

Not just the hit on Hossa, but the slew foot, the trip, the holding, the crap after the whistles. We were lucky to even be IN this game at the end.

**** Bettman, **** Shanahan, **** the NHL! I'll find something else to spend my money on in the future.

the "experts" think he will be suspended indef (out of the playoffs). Won't stop this sort of garbage from happening again...that's the worst part.

This suspension and fine stuff isn't working. It's making the league a bigger joke. Im tired of hearing about suspensions and fines and Im closely getting tired of these playoffs already. Im not devoting the time I wanted to towards them anymore. I wanted these playoffs to be about the good stuff...goals, saves, clean hits, passes, and the sorts. The air waves are all about head shots, cross checks and suspensions and fines.

Im happy Hossa is walking. I really am. It was all I could think of during the game. Hockey was a secondary thought. It's amazing Hossa or any other player hit like that ever gets up at all. It's just a matter of time before someone doesn't at this "pro" level...it will happen and when it does I am done as a fan.

I don't know what the answers are anymore. Lose the instigator? Get these damn armour pads off these guys shoulders (it used to hurt players to throw "hits" like the one Torres threw tonight). I just don't know if there even are answers unless you weed these a-typical asshole players out of the league all together. Maybe coaches and GM's not towing the company line would help? Just once I would like a coach or a GM to step up and say "yah our player threw an illegal hit and we are upset and disgusted and wont allow it on our team". One can dream but I honestly think that's one of the only way this shit stops. No more aiding and abetting these guys and these plays. Someone grab some common sense and pride for **** sakes and do the right thing.

Nice work NHL. You have done a great job at making things worse year after year...just grab a pair and admit you are failing.

Glen Healy just called Blackhawks fans out for whining when Daniel hasn't played a game since the Keith hit.

What a fucking POS!

The fucked up part TCD it was NOT JUST THAT HIT! This game was BRUTAL! Slew foot! Tripping! Holding! Roughing! NONE OF IT WAS FUCKING CALLED!

Explain it to me? Because the NHL owns the Coyotes and throws MILLIONS at it? IT's their fucking team!

I'm so fucking pissed right now had the ASSHOLES at the UNITED CENTER not kicked us out of the Kettle One I'd have popped through the glass to **** that POS up!

You start suspending guys for 20-30-40-50 games, you bet your ASS they will start responding to it. These suspensions are a FUCKING JOKE. What the **** does a guy making MILLIONS in a season care about a $2500 fine??? He spends more on his fucking bar tab when he goes out on an off-night!!! When you start taking away 40-50% of the money they are earning, you start making a point. You start threatening their CAREERS and their LIVELIHOOD, and you start making a point. You start costing them their fucking corvettes, their fucking BMWs, etc, you start making a point. These suspensions are as fucking disgraceful as the guys making the hits. GET SOME FUCKING BALLS, NHL.

I've heard some people saying the offenders should be out for as long as the victim is out. I'm not sure about that but I don't mind them paying for the victim's salary during that time. That would probably stop these hits pretty fast.

There is no excuse of the officaiting today, but to go back on how I feel and to say they are fixing this series to go the Yots way and have them win the series. I know you will call me crazy but I have always thought this is the easiest sport to fix. But this year its showing more and more. What better way to find an owner to keep the team in AZ then having them win a series which the Yots have not done yet. Bettman is doing that to show in hopes that the new owner sees the team is winning in the playoffs. Funny that he was at the game too. Call me crazy, but the way this series is playing out with these calls....there isn't much room to think otherwise. Something is up in the NHL and it smells fishy.

For something positive, I'll echo TCD on that Seabrook has been awesome. By far the best defenseman in the playoffs and arguably the season. While Keith has improved some, he is still not on that Norris winning level, and Seabs has picked up the slack and I am glad he's sticking around for a couple more years. He's the anchor of the Hawks D.

The Blackhawks released the following statement after the game from head team physician Dr. Michael Terry:

"Marian Hossa suffered an upper-body blow in the first period of tonight's game. After initial evaluation on the ice he was taken by ambulance to the hospital for further testing, which yielded encouraging results. He has been released from the hospital and we are monitoring him closely at home. We anticipate a full recovery in a timetable yet to be determined."

I'm sorry but the first sentence should read:

"Marian Hossa suffered a blow to the head in the first period of tonight's game."
