I cast an aye vote on the Emery extension. Decent backup for the Hawk's model. Good soldier/teammate. Just try to stay out of the shootout when he's in net.

Could be good if they get a number 1 in the off season. As it is they have two backup goalies. Neat the bottom of the regular season stats in GAA and SV%. Haven't checked against the playoff crowd but wee will go nowhere near the top with this act between the pipes...(one of the Van pair in the off season would be a coup)

Crawford is fine. I would've liked to see what options there were other than Emery but whatever. The team is front of them is more important anyway.

I would like Hutton to get a chance too, but this is Chicago. We don't give goalies a chance. They have to wait far longer than they should, and then steal it away from somebody when they finally get the chance.

Say goodbye to Hutton

Is'nt he under contract?

I will have to find out his particulars on his contract status. The guy is 26, lights up the IceHogs with his callup, gets two player of the week nods from the AHL and they just shit on his dream of being a goalie for the Hawks. I find this incredible and I am sure he is going to beg to get out of here and I don't blame him. From what I see this is the ultimate moronic move by the Hawks. WTF are we doing with these stupid one year contracts with end of their career goalies???

Hail Stan ! The timing to re-sign Emery seems strange, is there a shortage on available free agents this summer. So evidently Stan thinks Hutton is to green? Is he telling him to play a full season in Rockford. Emery did have some good stretches of games. The scariest part of Emery's game to me is shootouts.

(one of the Van pair in the off season would be a coup)

Reading this as it's written...

If you're referring "one" being Cory Schneider, yeah, he's definitely worth a serious look but Vancouver is going to want something for him and I don't see Gillis being all that willing to bargain with the Hawks. I also don't see the Hawks getting into a bidding war for Schneider once his contractual obligations to Vancouver end.

If you're referring to "one" being either of the Van pair, the Hawks are just now getting a very expensive head case goalie off the payroll. I don't see Scooter replacing him with a different very expensive head case goalie with an enormous ego to the tune of 5-million-3 per year for eternity. Why would the Hawks even want him? It's not like he's consistently better than what the Hawks have now.

I fail to see how either of these scenarios constitutes "a coup".

While he did have his best pro year this season, he still has only played 64 games as a pro over the past two years. He had 4 more games after graduating in 09-10.

I hesitate to give the Hawks front office any credit, but I think that asking Hutton to start next year in Rock isn't out of line..

Schnider would be awesome. He is the only Canuck I wouldn't mind here. I think he is a fine keeper.

When I heard that Emery had been re-signed, I saw it as insurance not to lose Emery over the summer. Since Hutton's stellar performance in Rockford, I just made the assumption that they would expect Crawford, Emery, and Hutton to all show up for training camp. Make them fight for the two available positions and send the loser back to Rockford, trade him, or release him depending on what made the most sense. You raise a very valid point about shootouts. Considering how often the Hawks go to OT, I too see Emery's shootout performance as a significant liability.

I do not dispute that comment as a whole but why not give him a true shot at earning that right this off season and at training camp?

With the way things look now would you even want to show up at Blackhawks camp knowing you are 26 and more then likely going to spend another season in the A?

I disagree with the earning it and payroll comments. The Blackhawks have another $600K year with Salak. Granted Hutton is only $65,000 a year in Rockford you are still looking at a chunk for Salak, Emery and Corey. How in the world are they going to afford to pay Hutton assuming he earns it out of camp???? The only rationale I see is that they are going to use Hutton as some form of trade bait.

If he goes in with that attitude, I don't want him in the or-gan-i-z-tion.

How do we know that he won't make the Hawks if he plays balls out in training camp?

Granted, I didn't see him much, but I am not a big fan of Salak at all.

Salak was injured for a good portion of that as well. Nothing like having some competition in Camp. Just because Emery signed a contract doesn't mean he's garunteed a spot. Especially with this organ I zation.

True.

I saw Salak in a couple of games before he got hurt. Not a big fan of his net presence.
