Air bag didn't even go off. Doubt that was enough impact to effect him. I guess who knows. He's feeling better, I think they are just being very cautious and I would expect no less. I heard Montedor probably wouldn't be back yet he's skating so it is what it is.

I'm thinking more of the sudden stopping of the car when he hit the beam, and his brain smacking into the front of his skull when that happened. Very similar to what happens when you're on the ice and get body checked. Doesn't take much of an accident to get a concussion, and he already had one.

I'm really really hoping it's not as serious as it seems right now. The Hawks don't need a Crosby 2.0.

Chris Kuc - Quenneville on if Toews' injury could be long-term: "We'll look on the optimistic and bright side that he's going to be back."

Does not sound good.

Sucks to hear this. You have to wonder if they knew it could be this serious before the deadline without getting a center.

you think Stan would have done something either way?

Maybe he would have sold more

I don't think anyone wanted anything other than what he sold. What was wanted wouldn't have been up for sale either way.

Tater they were told they weren't adding any salary so either way, I doubt it.

Basically Stan told the team it's up to them, with or without Toews.

Thanks.

If last nights effort becomes the norm, they'll be O.K. I think.

Sarah did this to my truck a few years ago and the air bags didn't go off either... It didn't affect her, but she wasn't suffering from a "suspected concussion" at the time, either.

the accidents always look worse than they are. Vehicles are built to collapse upon impact now.

My wife noticed this. We haven't seen the Toews Chevy commercial since this happened.

My point is that the air bags did not go off

Exactly. Air bags are set to go off between 15 and 20mph, depending on how the hit affects the sensors. Even below the airbag trigger speed, the car will deform a considerable amount within the crumple zones.

Plus if you run into a pole, post, or the like, the damage will always look greater because it's a smaller area in which the force is applied.

Now, I'm not an expert on how fast different skaters skate, but I would think the force of the accident on Toews would be something similar to him skating 2/3-3/4 of his full speed and then missing a check and hitting the boards.

I know, I was kidding, Hope she was ok, Btw, can you sue the Car maker if that bag does not go off???

maybe if she died. Airbags don't always help anyway, when I had my accident 4 years ago, it would have been better if the airbag DIDN'T go off.

Well, apparently I and a few others were wrong about this. Toews was just on NHL network and said it has been almost 3 weeks now that he has felt "those symptoms". He said the toughest part was coming to grips with it and realizing he couldn't play with it any longer. He said you come out of a game and feel those symptoms and don't want to admit what it really is.

So apparently he was hiding it and playing through it hoping it would go away. I understand he did it because he's a ridiculous competitor, but I have to think this is a major fail by the Blackhawks' organization to not have noticed this. Also very stupid of him to continue playing with it.

Not good news.

hes just said he expects to be playing again in a few games, and has been skating. He doesnt have THAT bad of a concussion history where it'll put him out till next season. Obviously not smart, but he's now getting better so, whatever.

First I don't think you had it wrong. Of those three weeks you quote up there he's been out of the line up over two. Previous to that, like Frolik right now (missed last two days practice) He had the flu. Most medical professionals that deal with concussions will tell you the symptoms of the flu, which Toews had, mimic those of a concussion. Extremely close.

He was NOT hiding the symptoms but at some point, it most certainly wasn't the flu and he realized it. I'm sure along with the medical staff. If you think Dr. Terry sucks, I suggest you check out his resume and or some of his former, current patients.

You were not wrong, he was NOT hiding anything. Maybe he knew it wasn't the flu causing them all along? I don't buy that, nor do I think he would be one to risk his career over it.

He said the same exact things to Kuc today after practice. At no point did he say he knew what it was and was hiding the symptoms.

I'm sure a lot of players feel as though they should "toughen up", "play through it", or "rub some dirt on it". The pressure to perform has got to be even higher for a star and team captain like Toews. Hopefully he's learned that you don't **** with brain injuries. Hopefully other players will get this as well.

I can't say whether the Blackhawks medical staff does a good or bad job handling these type of things. It seems with this particular condition, it falls on the player to be especially forthright about how he's feeling. Toews wasn't. Should the medical staff have noticed? No clue. My medical degree got lost in the mail.

Again you left out the tid bit he and most of the team have been going through the flu.

Small minor fact I know. I explained what the Dr. I asked said the symptoms were similar too. My medical degree is right behind yours in the mail, but that said I haven't seen Montedor playing since Colorado, have you? Why, because his symptoms were clear. I don't think they know enough about concussions to diagnose them all the time. Each person and or brain is different.

Even Crosby who was "diagnosed" with a concussion, was found to have a pinched nerve in his neck. So was it a concussion all this time, and or the pinched nerve.

It's a reletively new science. What happened 15 years ago they were never diagnosed? They played.
