That concern to me is not whether the owners like McD but the issues he as Commish

would bring to the GM's and players. You would see a huge divide between the owners and everyone else if this were to happen. McD is not respected amongst the GM's of the league and the same goes for the players who know him. The players union and the league would be at odds with each other and with his personality he would burn any bridge of anyone who does not bow to him.

As much as I want him out of Chicago, I sure as hell do not want him running the league!
The players union and the league are already at odd with one another. See: Kovalchuck, Ilya.

As mush heat as Bettman gets from the fans he is only doing the will of the Board of Governors.

True........ another reason why he would not work out. He is his own man and reports to no one.

Yeah, I don't see him answering to the B of Gs. but I do argree the league could benefit from some of his aggressive marketing strategies.

I would love it. People afraid of the league being run shady....look at the refereeing in the playoffs, not much more needs to be said.

Our game would become instantly more popular, games would go on ESPN, assuming he "listens" to the fans like he did here, (and players) the trapezoid would be done with, along with other shit changes after the lockout. Not to mention he would no longer be with the Hawks. The NHL would overtake the NBA, no doubt in my mind. I am pretty sure the attendance already goes to the NHL.

So Bettman gets slammed for coming from the NBA and having no knowledge of the game, but McD is ok even though he has stated that he has limited knowledge of the game and will rely on others for the Hockey side of this team?

Either way, why would Bettman ever step down, and who exactly has the power to push him out?

Well Buttman was an NBA Lawyer.

McDonough has been around sports marketing for 30 plus years.

Board of Gov's would be the ones to push him out and he's in their pocket, which I never see of Mcdonough being in anyones pocket. TO much of a power freak.

Yeah, I have a feeling that everything that McDonough would do as commissioner would be according to popular opinion, or at least by focus group. That could end up being VERY bad for the league (potentially worse than Betteman)

Sounds like Bill Clinton would be a terrific commissioner since he ran this country for 8 years by focus groups.....................................

Any man that plays a mean sax, gets dome in the oval office while retaining his meerkat resembling wife, and is clearly a stoner is fine to run the NHL by me.

Thank you for your explanation. NHL beats the NBA in attendance, and maybe the fact there on ESPN 24/7, ABC, TNT, has a thing to do with people thnking the NHL couldn't become bigger? The NHL is on fucking Versus and NBC once a week in the worst time slot for only half the season.....

Put us on those channels and I guarantee you Hockey will be more popular.

In the early 90's, one of the covers of Sports Illustrated Asked the question "Will basketball ever be as popular as hockey?" or something like that.

I can't read the dates on those SI covers. I'm curious, any idea when those were from?
