I'd rather watch Slap Shot 2 than an NHL with McD as the commissioner, but it would be hard to tell the difference between the two.

Yes all of that has to do with the team on the ice. But even two years ago, after signing Towes and Kane, the buzz was building, the Winter Classic, the Convention, the Heritage Nights... 90% is marketing buzz. Back in the 90's when we had the talent, won the Presidents Trophy, went to the cup... there was not this much buzz about the team. Great players, bad marketing. It's also why the NHL had issues in the 90's. Their top talents were guys like Bure, Federov, Jager, Salane... the great european influx of guys that could barely speak english and were difficult to market.



Now you have guys like Crosby, Kane, Towes and even Ovie is very approachable and a character. It's all marketing, and that what McD does. Yea there are sure to be some drawbacks, but as I was watching the Hawks DVD and they were talking about the 5-0 comeback game, I got pissed all over again as that was a Versus game that wasn't shown on Direct TV because of their little feud.



The NHL needs to get back on a "real" network, get the Stanley Cup winning team on the cover of Sports Illustrated when they win after 49 friggin years, and start showcasing their talent. With the success of the WWE and UFC, it's an easier cross-over to a game where a fight can break out at any min, where bone crushing hits should be hyped more, and the speed and skill of the game shown off.

Why does everyone hate McDonough?



Since he has been president, what has he done that's so bad?? Is it just the fact that he fired Tallon? Did you guys want the Hawks to be in the gutter forever and not be in the media, marketable, etc...



Just curious, please someone give me an answer

Luckily, I am not a McD hater, I respect what he had to do to KEEP HIS JOB but think what he did to Tallon was deplorable.



McDonough is a genius at what he does.... he's a marketing wiz with ZERO hockey acumen. That being said he's also a backstabbing sonofabitch.

There is a lot to write.



We have no problem with his marketing for the most part. He has marketed the hell outta this team, and I can appreciate it. However, it has come at the expense of some long time standards that fans have enjoyed for a long time.



We also know from some sources that are very credible that he is very two faced, disingenuous, and not as nice as he likes to be portrayed. Like said above, he knows nothing of hockey, although I am sure he picked up some over the last few years. He has had his hands in some things that have been blamed on others(qualifying offers, the Huet signing), and has destroyed the bond the STH's have with the team.

He also seems to like to take credit for the success of the team ON THE ICE which he had nothing to do with.

Great drafts, trades, free agents..... that happened before he was here set the team up for the success they've had.

Oh and BTW, The Hawks wouldn't have been "in the gutter". Winning teams fill seats, and the team was positioned to win BEFORE MCDouchebag arrived on the scene. WINNING teams are VERY marketable. Actually, Rocky had negotiated the TV BEFORE MCDummy started, so he can't even take credit for that.



People hate him because, in the words of Martin Havlat, "hockey players can spot a phony." So can hockey fans.

C'mon, we all know the rules. There was only one movie made in that franchise and that's Slap Shot. SS II & III are things of which we do not speak and pretend they never happened.
