Rodgers was massively underpaid on his 2nd and 3rd contracts compared to his value on the field and what others were making. If anyone had an argument to get a deal done early, it was him.

Well that's the Packers out of the Mack stakes.

Do you really think the Packers weren’t already prepared to give Rodgers a mega deal when it was reported that they showed interest in Mack? I’d bet they were in negotiations with Rodgers for quite awhile.

they have players to cut that could allow them to sign Mack.

I can't see them paying the highest paid player on both sides of the ball. But you never know I guess. This will likely be Rodgers' last contract so maybe the want to put everything into making a run at another Superbowl or two before they have to suck for a while.

The contract will have a massive signing bonus like most of GB's do so the cap hit in the near future shouldn't be that bad. If they're willing to trade picks for Mack then they'll be able to make the cap work.

It's going to be interesting seeing how that cash breaks down year by year. His cap number was 20.5M in 2018 and 21.1M in 2019. Since it's a 4 year extension, that averages out to ~30M / year over the next 6 years.

The deal has to raise his number the next two years or it's going to hit like a tidal wave at the end of that contract, right?

They had a change in GM....this GM went out and got a free agent for Rogers....

Packers could cut and probably will Clay Mathews and save about 11 million

Agreed, but currently, it looks like Rodgers' contract will be around $33M/year average. Not sure what the cap hit will look like so can't say for certain. But at this rate, if they got Mack, you'd have to think that putting ~$55M/year into 2 players isn't the best way to manage your team (even if the 2 players are arguably the best O and D players in the league). It'd be crazy if they did that, but they certainly have the draft capital to make that push.

As the Jets drove off they saw Bridgewater smiling and doing a happy dance.

Already considered a unattractive spot for FA's, this contract extension means no one will consider GB. I'm not saying the guy doesn't deserve it because he obviously does, but it's going to come at the expense of team success in the future. He needs 1 more SB to cement his otherworldly legacy. Will he get there? I think not.

If people get paid they will go there. Money is money.

Right, but money is all they have (had) to attract FA's...now that that has been compromised it'll be difficult to bring any elite FA talent to that city.

But it hasn't really been compromised. It think you're missing what people are saying...

If they find the cap room they will get them.....People are over estimating how bad the contract will hurt the Packers......it isn't that bad.

#54 one of the few who could defend this guy.

Staying healthy might be his only problem
