Sept 9 2018 - Rodgers out for season.

But seriously, good for him. I hate the Packers and Rodgers because he wipes his ass with us all the time. But he definitely deserves it.

I dont know. These guys get injured a lot and it is still a kid’s game they playing. Shit’s gotten out of control. Read today that Cousins turned down 90 mil from Jets to go to Vikes. Rodgers obviously better but the QB position, itself, just so out of control.

I could see the next CBA having a clause in it that sets a maximum contract value as a percentage of the cap.

And that goes to show you how reading headlines skews perception. Cousins turned down $90M and took $84M from MIN knowing he could win there. That's not exactly leaving much on the table compared to the overall contract. He took less than a 10% discount to go to MIN...

they have players to cut that could allow them to sign Mack.

If they cut Cobb and Matthews it would free up $19M. Mack's looking for $22/yr.

Well that's the Packers out of the Mack stakes.

That was my first thought.

The contract will have a massive signing bonus like most of GB's do so the cap hit in the near future shouldn't be that bad. If they're willing to trade picks for Mack then they'll be able to make the cap work.

Their GM is throwing money around for sure. I remember when they got Fuller to sign the offer sheet. I had a brief thought of thinking if we let Fuller walk, it would screw them in the future with their salary cap because it was so backloaded.

I'm curious to see the long term cap management by their new GM for sure. If they traded their two 1st round picks for Mack, they would have no high picks as well as being strapped salary cap wise for years. Imagine injuries to Mack & Rodgers? That would be a brutal blow to GB.

It's going to be interesting seeing how that cash breaks down year by year. His cap number was 20.5M in 2018 and 21.1M in 2019. Since it's a 4 year extension, that averages out to ~30M / year over the next 6 years.

The deal has to raise his number the next two years or it's going to hit like a tidal wave at the end of that contract, right?

Aaron Rodgers Current Contract:

Aaron Rodgers signed a 4 year, $134,000,000 contract with the Green Bay Packers, including a $57,500,000 signing bonus, $102,500,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $33,500,000. In 2018, Rodgers will earn a base salary of $8,900,000, a signing bonus of $57,500,000 and a workout bonus of $500,000, while carrying a cap hit of $20,900,000 and a dead cap value of $57,500,000.

Honestly, I don't see much risk involved. Risk is counting on clay mathews, or continual dumpster diving.

Well then, if the Pack did cut Matthews AND Cobb to make that Mack deal work, would you be one to covet Matthews on the Bears?

Remember, this comes from a person who thinks it was the best decision ever to pay Stafford the top contract previously. He has no idea what it takes to build a winning team...

And you do? LMAO.

BTW, Stafford is now the 3rd highest paid QB in the North, 5th in the league, one year into his contract, lol. You simply have no clue how this all works, how to adjust for an ever increasing cap number, etc etc. By this time next year he will probably be 8th-10th, etc etc.

but I digress, why throw money at Rodgers or Stafford when you can get a Glennon for 18.5 mill.........

The thing is ... Glennon's contract was never something that would restrict the Bears Cap situation in any way. Bad example by you. Did you notice the post I made about the cap situation? The Bears have $23.8M, and the Pack has 5.4M. What kind of Wolf tickets are you selling?

so, Your saying the Bears could afford Glennon for another year?

Brilliant!

BTW, bears would have had 42.3 mil right now if not for that waste on Glennon, could front load a contract for mack, and have him for 17-18 mil a year.

When did anyone start talking about Glennon for another year? Weird!

You obviously have have NO clue how the salary cap works so I will refrain from crushing you, in this debate...

Have a nice evening.

And you've won just as many playoff games in a DECADE with Stafford as we have with Glennon.

Tell me more....lol

This is awesome!! #1, as much as I hate to admit it, he's one of the best QBs to ever play the game. But more importantly, the more money spent on him, the less spent elsewhere.

It’s not like the Packers were spending any money on free agents when he was playing on a discount. Before this season, their biggest free agent acquisition in a number of years was Martellus Bennett.
