Impressive spring starts (super small sample) for some of the prospects

Wilson Contreras - 5 for 10 with 3 doubles, 4 walks, and zero strikeouts
Jorge Candelario - 8 for 24 with 2 HR, 2 doubles, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts

CJ Edwards - 3 innings, 1 hit, 1 BB, 3 strikeouts

Hendricks has 9 IP, 1 walk, 5 hits, 1 run and 11 K's. Not reading too much into that but the K totals in particular are encouraging.

Cubs' Jason Heyward: Hitting .111 this spring
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Jason Heyward went 0-for-3 Monday and is hitting just .111 in 18 at-bats this spring.

Heyward has just one single in his last four games. There's no reason to be worried about him at this point - small sample size and all - but with a lot of other talented outfielders on the roster, Heyward will certainly need to hit to get 500-600 at-bats this year.
I just don't get articles like these. It's not like the guy isn't going to be the starter in either CF or RF. I also can't stand the 0-fer and BA stuff in ST. I just want to know if players are getting their approach worked out and if they hit the ball hard. AVG is not a significant stat to me right now in ST. Is there somewhere to get better tidbits on the happenings in ST?

Way too early to trumpet up someone or bash someone. Especially for Veterans on this side of 30.

A sad consequence of the world we live in that is a 24 hour news cycle. Gotta have some BS to talk about. Sadly they often just reach for low hanging fruit vs more substantive topics.

Just sounds like haters just looking to bash the signing. Spring means nothing.

It works both ways. If Bryant had continue to hit HRs at the pace he them in last years Spring training, he would've hit about 80 last year. Preseason baseball means exactly as much as preseason NFL football which is zilch. Things change when the games mean something.

Not sure who available at this point but it wouldn't surprise me if they look for a Closer or a strong bullpen arm with closer potential. ..

I know it ST but Rondon basically been batting practice this spring. .

Wonder if the Yankees would consider moving Miller for a young prospect or two..

Maddon just said a day ago that he loves his bullpen and the versatility. He thinks its going to be a strong point of the team this year. I don't think they are making any moves.

He can love his bullpen and all, doesn't mean they might not consider making it better..

Im sure he loved his OF with Schwarber Heyward and Soler
that didn't stop them from getting Fowler

Who needs a bullpen when you're up 10 runs every game?

Fowler fell into their laps. The stars aligned for that to happen. The Cubs knew walking in who their main bullpen guys were. Barring an injury, it would be weird for them to try to trade for such a big name over a couple of spring outings. Also, in the offseason, Hoyer said that Rondon would be the predominate closer but Maddon could use the hot hand. Maddon has basically reiterated that he has no problem using some of his swing guys late in games to give Strop and Rondon rest.

Point is , they signed him even though their OF was basically set...

Of course Maddon gonna say he loves his guys and how he going to use what he has on his current roster. .
Again, it doesn't mean they wont consider adding someone to help make them better ..

I didn't say it had to be a big name, i mentioned Miller only because maybe the Yankees might consider moving him..
and there been last minute trades made during ST

I think the Yankees would do it for Contreras and Candelario

Rondon is going to get every chance to keep that job and there are options there. I seriously doubt the Cubs make a serious bullpen move until at least June. After that who knows but let's let this all play out.

I think Williams could see some time in Chicago in 2016 but probably late. They're going to want him stretched out to start, most likely in Iowa. Carl Edward's Jr. will probably be the first guy up from AAA when they need some help in the pen.

Yes, which means it won't happen. If Montero goes down for an extended period Contreras will see the lion's share of the time at C with the big club. They really can't even afford to trade him right now.

Then there's not much hope of improving the club if the team is unwilling to part with at least prospective talent back.
