Hendry did fleece the Pirates a couple times so that was pretty cool. Once for A-Ram, the other time he gave them two mediocre pitchers (who I think ended up being injured) for Gorz and Grabow. I was happier with Gorz than Grabow, obviously

Kevin Hart was one of them, and yeah I think he has been hurt for a while. It was sort of like the move the Cubs made back in 2000 or 2001 when MacPhail took over as GM and named Hendry as his assistant where they traded Scott Downs for Rondell White, and Scott Downs immediately got a major injury right away. Too bad Scott Downs turned into one of the better lefty relievers in the game a long time down the road.

1) Angels had a better record
2) Rays has the same record
3) You lost game 1
4) You lost game 2
5) You lost game 3 ( Which is a sweep )
6) Total Wins for regular season, (97) after playoffs were over, the total number of cubs wins for the year including playoffs (97)

LOL at your stupidity. Playoffs are a crapshoot. Do you not agree with that?

As for the whole Ricketts thing, it's been like 2 years. Let's just chill the **** out and give the man a chance to see what he can do. Should he have gotten a better person in charge of baseball ops? Maybe, but he probably has his reasons. He can't just clear house first moment he gets into town and then has no clue how to do anything.

Consider if Cuban had gotten the team. Would the team be in any better shape? Probably not. The rate at which Ricketts is pumping money into the development of players overseas and in the draft, is probably the best thing that could be done. We have a ton of money coming off the books this year and even with a slight decrease in payroll, we're still going to have ample money to spend. And if you think he's going to let the payroll drop a large amount, you're silly. He knows that fans will stop coming, even though it wouldn't be the worst thing, as it would allow for even more money to be pumped overseas and into next years draft.

Really, let's just take a step back and look at this. What has Ricketts done that he been so bad?

Anyone who hangs their hat on a regular season 97 win team is flat out idiotic. Atleast poodski wanted the championship. but CO, 2008 was a title/banner year for the cubs. Sorry, crap shoot (at times) or not, the WS title is the most important, not the regular season standings......especially when comparing the AL of that year with the angels and rays and other AL teams who had a MUCH harder schedule than the cubs. w/l is so face value, you have to look at the schedule, who they played, when they played them to make any sort of judgement on a team.

The second half of that is how I decided the Reds would be under .500 after last season ended. And I definitely agree with that.

I was asked once if we were going to win it in 08, and I thought we'd definitely make it was scared as hell of Tampa Bay and Los Angeles, as well as Boston.

But we didn't even get as close as I thought we would...

I could make the SAME exact case that anyone that thinks Kenny Williams should be excused from the problems of the 2011 White Sox is flat out idiotic.

Just because you say it, Dews, doesn't make it true. Your opinion isn't the Ten Commandments.

:obama:dude..cmon just because his opinion is a little different than yours doesnt mean he's stupid

the playoffs arent totally a crapshoot...but even in a 7 game series..literally any team can win it in the right situation due to the streaky nature of the game..not to mention which teams have good pitching

i still think its a disappointment that we went out like that after such a great year..and that was pretty much the window of opportunity(atleast when you look at some of these declining vets) closing on us

no one said he should clean house first thing..and he hasnt...that doesnt mean changes shouldnt be made though

i'm not really attacking ricketts..but overall i am not a fan...i especially dont like keeping hendry

cuban has a higher worth and would have not caused the cubs to be in the financial hole they are in..

do i like the fact that he's working towards the farm system? sure

but there's a good possibility that the cub's hands will be tied come this offseason because of ricketts

Wow, does CO honestly think Ricketts is doing better than Mark Cuban could have

:obama: :obama: :obama: :obama:

Cuban took the laughing stock Mavericks to an NBA title in a decade. Should have had 2, but he made the Mavericks relevant, not only with his antics, which the Cubs could use, and the money he spent.

I think the only difference between Cuban and Ricketts at this point would have been changes made to the front office. That would be an improvement, but I don't think that would have changed the results on the field up to this point any.

And everything Cuban has said about acquiring a baseball team has been along the lines of that he wouldn't spend like the Yankees, and that you have to build a strong organization. etc. Sound familar?

Cuban>>>>>>>>>>>Ricketts.

Cuban turned the Mavs around right away. Mavs were :turrible:

Through antics, and deals, he made the Mavs relevant again right away. The Cubs have gone down the crapper since Ricketts bought the team, because they don't have money to spend to keep people away. Cuban does. I'd be more happier to support Cuban's Cubs than Ricketts.

Cuban acts like a Cubs fan, Ricketts claims he does. :rolling::rolling::rolling:

But Cuban said he wouldn't spend his way out of this problem. The only way this year or last year would have been better is if the new owner was going to buy his way back into being competitive.

There is no way to know for certain but as far as financial resources being committed to the Cubs I have to believe that it would be similar. The difference I already aluded to was probably having a better front office in place, which is a big deal. However, you name whatever baseball executives you want and they weren't winning these past two years with a payroll at these levels.

I wouldn't think Cuban would have released his true strategy in a statement.

My belief is Cuban could get good players on short term contracts, and keep the Cubs contending every year, similar to the Red Sox since 03.

:dunno: all of this Cuban talk is useless.

You're right that it is useless argument because MLB wasn't going to let him get him a team, whether in Chicago or elsewhere. The only point I've been arguing is that as of right now Ricketts is providing the financial resources to make this team a winner. I think he has failed to put the right people in charge, and I've explained many times why I dislike Jim Hendry as the GM. That to me means he has done half of his job so far. That isn't a ringing endorsement, and I think this offseason is going to be the most telling of what direction we are headed as a franchise in the immediate future.

I'm contending Ricketts doesn't have enough resources to get the Cubs competitive.
