Boy Anthony Rizzo looks terrible:

Top 10 in OPS for 1B in MLB
Top 10 in HR for 1B in MLB
11th in RBI for 1B in MLB
3rd in Doubles for 1B in MLB
3rd in SB for 1B in MLB
6th in R for 1B in MLB

Boy, the slubs in the F.O. sure do look like a bunch of doodoo heads signing this guy to a team friendly extension.

Now imagine what he would look like with an average to above average team around him.

Conveniently posted after his best game in over a month.

Which 'raises' his numbers for the month of June to.....

.224 BA which ranks 33rd in baseball for 1B.
.749 OPS which ranks 22nd in baseball for 1B.
2 HR for the month which ranks tied for 16th in baseball for 1B
8 RBI for the month which ranks tied for 20th in baseball for 1B
3 2B for the month which ranks tied for 18th in baseball for 1B*

I'm confused.

Aren't we supposed to be patient with this team and the players on the farm? Are you suggesting the cubs purchase decent, offensive bats in free agency?

I hope your next post will be a rote listing of all the Cubs box scores from 2013, with your analysis being "Where's the success?"

You post like a Wendy's commercial.

That would take about two lines.

Good formatting of this post. I enjoyed the needless blank lines, of which there were about 250.

Sad state of affairs when certain people here can't even copy/paste information. Also, its very "insightful" of you to merely list all the transactions with no analysis or opinion other than "this sucks!". I hope your next post will be a rote listing of all the Cubs box scores from 2013, with your analysis being "Where's the success?"

Where's the sustained success ? Pretty simple.

A whole lot of transactions. I agree.

Instead of complaining. Try and prove to me after nearly two years now what players you feel fit "sustained success" out of that entire mess.

Or merely shut up.

Don't expect someone who only watches Sportscenter and box scores to see how good players are to make accurate assessments.

At this point there are a lot of questions about Rizzo and Castro, despite what some want to believe. That said, this season and last isn't the judgement seasons for Theo. If/When the Cubs stink next year, I think fairer judgements can be handed down to Theo and management.

You are a little more patient than I am. I've seen enough of Boy Blunder's moves at this point in time, and can fairly judge him to be totally inept.

That big list of shit I posted is painful to read. There's nothing there but pure senseless garbage transaction after garbage transaction. None of which has provided an improvement nor wins at the ML level.

Never have been against FA's, just didn't get my panties in a wad over the decision not to sign an obese player tied to 1 defensive position and no DH in the NL to a 9 year deal for over 200M, nor the idea of signing a ?32? year old to a 10 year deal for nearly 250M.

For the 2014 FA class, I would like for the Cubs to pursue Cano. Reasonably, they should offer 6-7 years at 150-175M. If he demands 8+years, the Cubs should walk away. Not sure about Choo. He is playing CF, but is better suited for RF and his power isn't necessarily suited for RF. Jacoby Ellsbury is intriguing as a reclamation/short term deal. A 2 year deal would be ideal for the Cubs, but don't think a Boras client could be convinced to take a 2 year reclamation deal. Brian McCann might be the best FA for the Cubs to pickup. He will turn 30 in February and catchers don't tend to last into their later 30's. However, a backstop of McCann and Castillo might help lengthen the careers of both.

As to a review of the Cubs offseason moves:

Eric Chavez has outproduced Luis Valbuana, however, his injuries and needs for days off has limited his production to the point that the Cubs 3B production for this year has been much better than the Diamondbacks. In case you want proof:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/batting/split/81/sort/OPS/order/true

Nick Swisher has not outproduced Nate Scheirholtz despite more PA's or Anthony Rizzo.
Great job of the Cubs not signing Youk.
Hamilton, Ross & BJ Upton have been bad. Ryan Sweeney has nearly outproduced Cody Ross in half the PA's.
Michael Bourn has been good, however, it is rarely a good idea to buy SB from a one dimensional guy on the other side of 30.
Cubs could have bid on Greinke, but doubt anyone would have been able to outbid LA; and to be honest, Scott Feldman's numbers are very similar to Greinke's so far this year.
Anibal Sanchez is the one sticking point in regards to FA's. However, it is still debatable if Sanchez ever really had any inclination to actually sign with the Cubs.

You say you have never been against FA's and then turn right around and list how almost every FA signing would have been bad.*

So he is for FA's when the right ones are there... not just choosing the cream of the crop just because people think they fit, or they are the best available... huh novel concept.

Riots in wrigleyville now. People must have mistaken the Cubs with the Blackhawks. No wonder Ricketts isn't in a big hurry to build a winner.

IF Cubs ever do win WS Chicago will shut down for days

While Jed and Theo were doing extensive study on player analysis earlier in the evening in there office, they noticed what appeared to be loud noises and also objects being overturned at Clark and Addsion. Theo (on the right) briefly left for a couple of minutes to spectate at the window while Jed (on the left) kept busy.

Theo, after acknowledging the rioting and before re-seating himself and finishing his analysis work turned to Jed and said......we made the right choice by keeping Marmol.

I was bored so I rewrote a Beatles song to fit the Cubs right about now.

"The Long And Rewarding Journey"
The long and rewarding journey that leads to the playoffs
Will never occur here
I've seen that plan before
It always leads to failure
Lead us to the playoffs

The wild and young prospects that Theo acquired
Has left a few fans crying for a chance
Why leave us hoping here,
Let us know the way
Many times I've been wrong and many times I've raged
Anyway you'll never know the many ways they’ve tried
And still they lead the Cubs back to the long and rewarding journey
You left us hopeless here one hundred and five years ago
Don't leave me waiting here, Lead us to the playoffs

But still they lead me back to the long and rewarding journey
You left us hopeless here a one hundred and five years ago
Don't keep us waiting here (Don't keep us wait), lead us to the playoffs
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Am I the only one thinking that the Cubs could be trading Carlos Villanueva as well. He strings together some good starts. I think they would let him go.

Not sure on that one. He is cost effective as a starter and can be plugged into the pen.

I do not believe they are going to blow out some BP arms this year over this tank job.

MLB Leader in HR's since June 28

Chris Davis??? Nope.

Miggy??? Nope.

Anthony Rizzo??? Nope.

Starlin Castro??? Nope.

The Albatross who isn't worth his contract and single handedly preventing the Cubs from being a competitive team??? Yep.

Team Record since June 28??? 8-6.

Man he is really derailing this team.

He has earned his 10/5 right to veto a trade to any team he doesn't want to play for.

There are a lot of problems with this team and Soriano is near the bottom of the list despite all the whining and crying from the 'experts' around here.

Alfonso Soriano has been extremely under appreciated during his time with the Cubs. The media has been ridiculous towards him.

People forget that he was an all star in his first two seasons with the Cubs and he played a good part in the Cubs going to the playoffs both of those seasons, then he started getting injured.

I know people wanted to see him traded because of his contract or because the Cubs have some outfield prospects, but I would like to see him finish his contract with the Cubs. I would really like to see him win the world series with the Cubs if they are even close to that by the time his contract expires. Him winning the world series MVP would be even greater with how he was treated different times during his time with the Cubs.

I'd like to see both Matt Garza and Alfonso Soriano stick around.
