The field itself is fine, it's well-maintained. I think it's the wind blowing in and out that leads to the unpredictability and thus the need for the construction of a balanced lineup.

I was including the wind in field conditions. I think you could put day games in that category as well, though I won't completely discount the longterm effects of the constant adjustment in schedule the players go through the season.

The Ricketts' (or at least some of them) versus the President?

This is directly relevant to the Cubs and Wrigley Field as Rahm Emmanuel is an Obama buddy and isn't too happy about this. Papa Joe, who bankrolls the Cubs with a trust fund, (if he doesn't back away from the statements from this morning and try to assuage the Great Rahm) may have torpedoed his kids' chance to get some cooperation from the city.

Tom Ricketts distances the Cubs from the anti-Obama campaign presented to his father | HardballTalk

There's probably more in the Tribune and Sun-Times blogs. This is going to be messy.

obama's a pussy. So is Rahm if he's going to let politics get in the way of a business deal. Oh wait, I forgot it's Chicago we're talking about. The most corrupt political machine in the country. God forbid someone not be a liberal crony there.

It's not the Cubs' owners role to play politics. I don't care what side the Ricketts are on, its none of our business. It is the business of the people who hand out government money.

They're not.

Exactly. It shouldn't matter what side he's on. Rahm is butthurt that not everyone loves his butt buddy in the White House.

It is the business of the people who hand out government money.

No, it's not. One's political leanings shouldn't have any effect on a business receiving necessary funding.

The problem unfortunately is that the city doesn't have to fund Wrigley Field because it's not a "necessity" so the Ricketts might have just (inadvertently or otherwise) been forced to spend *gasp* their own money.

It shouldn't but unfortunately for the Cubs it does. It's how the world works. It takes ass kissing to get anywhere/anything done. Hopefully it doesn't impact the funding the Cubs receive.

Depending on who you ask(crazy fans), it may be a necessity.

But as for the second point, you're right. The Ricketts have the money to put up their own money and still be quite comfortable financially. But they likely won't because #Rickettscheap.

There's a previous article about how the alderman in that ward, Tunney I believe, has been receiving kickbacks from rooftop owners and the like to prevent Wrigley Field from putting up additional ads and obstructions to the rooftop views.

This is very easy to fix. Instead of just publishing an apology statement, send an apology campaign donation to the Obama people and tada...instant goodwill.

Politics!

Oh I get it. Instead of paying their own money, they'll just ask the taxpayers to do it. Certainly nothing political there.

The plan as I understand it reallocates some of the amusement taxes towards the renovation of Wrigley Field so in a way it's not an increase of taxes but is still a direct taxpayer-funded venture.

I never said taxes will be raised, I just said it would be taxpayer-funded.

Which shouldn't happen and I don't support that plan at all.

Indeed, but since those taxpayers were going to Cubs games anyway I guess they can justify it

Start a donation fund at Wrigley for those who are willing to chip in to renovate the stadium. Lol

Correct. They're playing politics in that aspect, but not when it comes to the topic that the OP posted.
Care to explain how Papa Ricketts funding an anti-Obama campaign isn't politics?

:obama:

Of course it's political. He's not doing it to get money from Rahm or the city of Chicago. He was funding it due to his own political beliefs. My response to fisch was that him doing so should have no political bearing on the situation with Wrigley and trying to fund the renovation, hence they weren't playing politics in that aspect. The media(what a surprise) made it political and made a story out of it. It wasn't a political move to get the money or not.

What Ricketts does politically and with his money shouldn't have anything to do with the decision of Rahm to fund Wrigley's renovation or not, but unfortunately it will, like fisch said.
