Packers are better as of today, but the Bears have an aura of excitement around them that hasn't been seen for a long time.
The Rodgers/McCarthy era should have produced more fruit but it hasn't. Rodgers is out of his prime (still a very good QB though) and injury concerns are now mounting. He's also due a gargantuan contract in a season that will surely stress the Packers' roster in terms of depth and quality.
I think Robinson spelled it out nice and clear. He wanted to be closer to home meaning he wanted to be near two major airports to get to Detroit in under 25 min instead of having to either charter a plane out of Green Bay or drive 3 hrs to Chicago in the first place.

it's only surprising in the sense that he passed on winning games/playoffs for a team that's at the start of the process of getting to that point. At his age though, this isn't really that important at this stage in his career.
