Ton: you're missing my point...I don't think Amazon in any way, shape, or form *has* to sell it.

But the book has a right to exist under free speech.

If amazon doesn't sell it, fine, i won't lose sleep or stop ordering from them. Ditto if they do sell it. Others may have a different take, but Amazon, being privately owned, doesn't have to sell anything they don't want to.

But I don't think a government injunction is the right way to stop it. This land is Freedom for all the people, not Freedom for all the people (unless I think you're wrong).

I dont think anyone called for the government to get involved. Like I said, the book can exist -- but let the ****** sell it on the streets. No company in their right mind should endorse such a product, I think thats where the problem lies.

The fact that people are actually purchasing it is the real tragedy.

And when was the bible written??? In modern times or hundreds of years ago? So just maybe there were many things that were acceptable then but are not now? So maybe the pope or somebody should rewrite the thing to meet modern day standards?

And last I checked, the bible was not a guide on how to live the life of a pedophile. I believe it was more about living the life of a christian.

The book that is being discussed is soley devoted to living the life of a pedophile and nothing else.

Big difference just as there is a big differnce in the interntions of the writers of both.

Okay then look at it this way, this book is about how to be a good modern catholic priest.

See, I disagree on two premises:

For those of us who have a sick and twisted sense of humor but can differentiate fantasy from reality, this is a gag gift on par with giving someone an inflatable sheep/pig.

Or, conversely, some parent purchasing this to get into the mind of a pedophile and using the information to protect their kids and/or teachning their kids o protect themselves.

But, yeah, that's about the only two useful reasons that I can see someone getting this.

I don't even think you have to be a parent to justify it. Curiosity into what these people think, how they work, any kind of insight, wanting to learn about just what it is that drives people to these lengths, I don't see that as wrong.

Personally, I don't either, and my fianceé would agree, bt then again, she's a psychologist so study along these lines for her would not be considered odd.

It was just the first best example my mind came up with for a normal legitimate use that a layperson would have for such information.

Right, the thing is I don't see why other people can't realize that.

I think it has something to do with the fact that people en masse--especially when thinking as a group rather than as an individual, have a concept of "normal" when it comes to thoughts and behaviours. When something falls outside of that "normal", realm, often interest and act are blurred even though interest and act are two completely separate things.

As such, that group mentality devolves into the "normal people don't have such interest, and since they have an interest they must be doing it." frame of mind. As such, in this context, the 1st mpuse of the group mentality is that if anyone orders this book, they are showing an interest in pedophilia, and since pedophilia is not normal anyone ordering this book must be doing so because they are interested in commiting pedophilia. While that midset is not wholly incorrct, it fails to take into account that they could be some legitimate uses and intrest in it, which would not mean acting out on said act.
