How about this:

Every 2, 4, and 6 years, based on what the election is, we build a Thunderdome™ and have the politicians who want office to fight to the death. Put that shit on pay per view. In no time, our national debt would be gone. :)

Some bromances run deep.

Give them a week or two months to get over it.

One has the option to move.

Sure you do, but unless you live in some oppressive third world place, most people don't. If you happened to be born in Italy or Japan or Australia (for example), you would likely feel similarly about these places as you do about America in your current life. It's not a matter of making your own choice in the way that liking a sports team is.

Agreed. I am sure I would be happy living in many other Countries...Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Spain, Portugal etc..., and I am happy here. Illinois Government sucks balls, but other than that I am happy here as I would be many other places.

The old happiness comes from within is also very true.

Although I'd be happier if they would re-pave Roosevelt Rd(Rte. 38). Shit's a mess from downtown all the way to Iowa, even through wealthier suburbs.

As is almost every state road.

We drifted pretty far from what this country was founded on. Having said that I respect it and it pisses me off to see it trampled or burned. It still represents our freedom and how far we have come as a nation (despite how fucked up that may be some times).

Right. Your life is about yourself, your character, and those you spend it with, not which man-made border you randomly happened to exit your mother's body in.

I've been around the world a time or two and I still wouldn't want to be a citizen of any other country.
Our politicians are amateurs when it comes to corruption compaired to other countries I've been to. Concerned that the police abuse thier authority? Try going where it is corrupt at the institutional level and bribes are considered the norm whenever you come in contact with a policeman. I literally briefed our guys to carry money at all times and if stopped by the police to simply say the following " can I just pay the fine now to you?" Worked every time and our guys were never detained. *** marrage? Some gays around the world worry about being killed for being ***.

America has its flaws no doubt, But at the heart of the country is still a basic premise that freedom, fairness and justice are important. We as a country dont always get it right but we as citizens still keep trying to make it better. Other countries have followed our lead over the last 200 years and are nice places these days too. No doubt about it.

If you see someone burning the Flag dont let it bother you, its because this country is great that they have the freedom to burn the flag without being jailled or stoned.

Every politician is self-serving. It doesn't matter the form of government.

The inherent problem is that humans are selfish. This is why I support the implementation of a robot government. Robots give zero fucks.

I, Robot and Terminator come to mind. AI is actually pretty scary stuff. Worse than the H Bomb IMHO.

Are ones not sports fan of a certain team because of the area they are born? Would 80% of Bears fan be Bears fans if they were born in say Wisconsin?

On a serious note though. I can only speak from experience by country I have spent years of my life in but Mexico takes immense pride in the portrayal and treatment of their flag. You don't see shit like flag patterned underwear or slippers and bullshit like that. Its considered blatant disrespect. Since grammar school its drilled into youth that the flag is something the be respected, revered and handled with honor.

You're comparing America to shitty totalitarian, theocratic or other third world countries. The same kinds of freedoms and ideals you embrace in the US are enjoyed by many, many other countries too.

When you say "any" other country in your opening sentence, you make it sound like you believe that the world consists of America (freedom) and everywhere else (not freedom), which is why so many people from other free countries mock the severely insular attitudes of some Americans.
