Most of the poeple around here who drive trucks actually use them for truck purposes: Hauling or off-road.
Most of the people who drive SUV's around here use them as grocery getters.

I drive my Durango to the grocery store.... do you hate me? :-v

**** well what is it this time?

Its the repelling cable in your avatar, the friction caused by stopping that is causing excess toxins to enter the stadium atmosphere causing everyone inside to die one second earlier than they would normally.

I don't hate, but I have a hard time fathoming why someone would need an SUV for just hauling themselves to and from work and hauling groceries if they don't have another use for it.

AWD in the Snow.... hauling shit for family.... moved my mom twice in the last year lol... I can lay the seats down and pick up an entire freezer.... haul my bag sets up to Michigan in the summer.... idk I prefer having the capabilities even if I don't use them constantly.

Plus I drive 5 mins to the train and train in to work every day so 99% of my commute is via train.

I know where you are coming from though... my step-brother lives in the suburbs like me and drives a huge pickup.... he only really uses it to tow their camper thingy on the few times a year they take that out for a trip.... I used to think like you about him but **** it why do I care?

And with the snow the last 2 years I like being able to go out and never worry about getting stuck.

I have a full sized half ton pickup that hauls me 5 miles a day to and from the train station.

To be fair his question is why we NEED it for these purposes.... I would say I don't NEED my Durango, I could buy a dinky little Civic and just deal with getting stuck in the snow or being snowed into my garage or not being able to haul stuff when I happen to want to.... I could do that, its an option, I just choose my Durango... I don't NEED it but I want it and I can afford it so I have it.

Meh I leave that nit picking to those who find issue with it. Honestly I drive what I drive because I like it. I like sitting up high and being able to see over the other terrible drivers on the road who cut people off and wait till the last second to merge. I like being able to know that if someone hit me I'm more likely to be in better condition because I drive something that can take a hit. Obviously if it is a Semi anyone is screwed.

So I weigh my wants over other peoples "needs" and decide that I want this and I enjoy having a vehicle that can help myself or family/friends move when they "need" too.

I confess that may have been me. It seems like more and more if you turn on your signal to change lanes or merge everyone wants to speed up and not let you in because they want to be ahead of you, even if there was plenty of room for you to change lanes and you're going fast enough for the flow of traffic.

This is what I don't understand, modified rice burners are a dime a dozen.

Yet classic muscle cars such as this can be had pretty cheap...plus nobody else on the road has one:
1970_oldsmobile_cutlass_supreme-pic-39006.jpeg

And they are easier to maintain with less shop tools.

My problem with those cars is they wont fit in a "normal" sized garage.

Also, every time you go to fix something you discover what 40 years of morons have ghetto-rigged.

I see these cars/era of cars a lot down here...unfortunately, they're on 30"s and painted like cereal boxes.

Wut about peeps that drive trucks?

Look, I don't feel good about telling someone what they can or can't drive. But in my personal opinion, people that drive a truck but only haul shit once or twice a year are fucking dumb. They pay that extra gas and dump all that extra CO2 and carbon monoxide into the atmosphere so they can help someone a buddy move every now and then? Fuckins stupid imo.

Its like we all have to share one pie and some asshole takes a piece twice as big as everyone else for no good reason. And then, when we get in the elevator, dude farts it up and we all have to breathe his ass cause he ate too much pie.

Really, if the gov stopped subsidizing oil, nobody would be driving trucks or suv's anyway.

Whatever. I'm just a biologist so I deal with the effects of emissions every day. It bothers me that people think the atmosphere that all life depends on is negligible or nitpicking just cause they can't see it.

I mean, if you lived on a river, used a well, and some fucktwat upstream was dumping toxic waste just cause its what he liked, it probably would be a big deal.

The reality is that we are currently, right now, in the midst of the 6th great extinction and are losing species at a rate that rivals every extinction that has come before us.
