My wife and I really get into Halloween. Besides movies, we try to cram in as much as our schedule will allow.
1. Pumpkin Ale tasting. Usually buy up some of our favorites and sample anything new. Thinking about having one as I type this. Pumpkin flavored ale is probable met with revile by most, but we really enjoy it. It's kinda of like sushi - you either like it or you don't.
2. Decorations, both inside and out. Just bought our first house, but didn't go too crazy this year. Again, very busy. But plenty of room for yard stuff. Used vegetation killer in the flower bed in front to pave way for it to be ripped out. In the meantime, it serves as a makeshift graveyard. Also dug out the orange/purple lights for the upper level of our party deck.
3. Costumes! We have been doing multiple outfits the last several years. Even won best group as pirates of the Caribbean Vs. the British navy last year. Typically we steer away from the easy store bought ones and make our own. Getting quite good at it actually. Some of the props I've done over the years have turned out nicely, like the light saber I did for my Sith Lord (The Old Republic) outfit. This year we are going as Beetlejuice, with my wife in his traditional striped outfit and me in the burgundy tux from the scene where he almost married Lydia. Thinking about cobbling together one of the
Whisper Men just as a backup.
4. Zombie pub crawl in Minneapolis. Went last year, and going again this Saturday. Did medical zombies last year, going as the cemetery zombie and Barbara from the original 'Night of the Living' dead. Going to do outfits and makeup in gray-scale so it looks like we came right out of a black and white movie.
5. The Boo Bash, which is a annual benefit for Boys & Girls Clubs in the area. Have gone to most of them in the last several years. Usually consist of live music, free food, and a costume contest.
6. Wedding anniversary - We eloped and got married at the Erebus Haunted attraction several years ago in October by
Wolfman Mac, who used to be a horror host of the Chiller Drive-Inn TV show in Pontiac, MI. Our wedding party consisted entirely of zombies!
7. And of course, movies. Keep a running list around here somewhere so we don't miss any. 'The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown' is a yearly staple.
