DeMarcus Cousins -- Derrick Coleman V.2
No thanks, I'll pass.
Except, I think a lot of people would want him as a trade chip to get Howard. I don't want him either beyond that. At least I think that's where many are coming from. At least that's where I'm at.
As things stand right now, Howard wouldnt commit to playing here. This makes it harder to justify giving up a ton for him. On the other hand, the Lakers, apparently, are offering Bynum or Gasol...not both as of now. On the surface, Bynum and Gasol look like better players and this true but Gasol is getting older and Bynum has a bunch of injuries. Both Bynum and Gasol make a lot of money too. Meanwhile, Cousins is on his rookie contract. This goes along with his age and upside.
Since Sacramento is having these problems with Cousins, that lessens their leverage. It could provide an opportunity to dump Boozer's contract (although his parents can continue attending games since they're lucky apparently). I'd think Cousins would be more appealing to Orlando even being a bad apple.
I think Cousins gives you more flexibility in trade. I don't think we'll end up with Howard but if they're going to be serious about it, acquiring Cousins might better enable that to happen. If Howard doesnt commit, I'd look to give up Cousins, a player (Korver?), and a pick. If Howard commits, I'd give up a lot more.
