Yea this is the thing that never makes sense to me about the All-Star game. I mean in 2008 the Cubs had a ridiculous number of people (many who didn't really deserve it *cough*Fukudome*cough*) in the All-Star game because of their record, and this year we have people deserving being left off because of their record.

I am just waiting for the All-Star break to get over so that we can get down to dealing away vets.

what do you want for Hill? We need a back up and I dont want Flowers being that guy since Ramon Castro broke his hand today.

I wouldn't mind getting anything to be rid of Koyie Hill. He isn't going to be that cheap after this year and I wouldn't mind seeing Castillo jp here taking a third of the starts behind the dish. Give me a flawed prospect in the low minors and I would be more than happy to see Hill gone.

It may not be used but lets see how many made it in the lead:

Catcher: both made it
1st base: both made it
2nd base: NL made it, AL didn't
SS: both made it
3B: AL made it, NL didnt
RF: both made it
CF: both made it
LF: NL made it, AL didn't
DH: AL made it

So of the 19 16 of them made it. Can you find a stat where more than 16 of the number one players at their position within their league were named to the team?

Note the three that didnt make it were Aramis, Zobrist and Alex Gordon

Hey, heard on twitter that Bochy said on ESPN that he'll probably pick A-Ram to replace Polanco. :)

Would that mean that A-Ram or Rolen starts?

They said A Ram was asked but turned down the offer to play. He already had plans to go to the Dominican and spend time with his family.

Good decision by Aramis to rest up instead of playing in a game where he wasn't wanted anyway. I think he'd have gone if he hadn't already made plans.

I don't blame A-Ram for not playing because he already had family plans and it's probably not as big of an honor when you're not one of the original choices anyway.

With Rami turning it down make that 17 of 19.

also if you are cranking out base stats your WAR is going to be higher, so what is your point? it still inst a stat, it is still highly flawed......you have no point whatsoever you are just throwing things around like usual.

Aramis is healthy, and turned down all star game. class act.

Eh...he was asked a bit too late and had travel plans, life goes on. Derek Jeter is relatively healthy now but still turned it down. You just never know, but the ASG isn't an obligation and there's really no incentive for players to want to play it in if they can get out of it anyway.

Strawman I knew you would come!

You keep saying its not real yet can't prove it doesn't show what its supposed to.... hmmm.

I am not throwing things around like usual I just pointed out that 17 of the 19 leaders were asked to join the all star game.

Since its not real and sucks there HAS to be another stat that would have at least 18 if not 19 right? Right?

 what are you talking about?

Il make it as easy as possible for you.

The higher the entire stat line, the higher the WAR. Not very hard to understand.

If you want to continue to use the highly subjective and flawed stat you are welcome to do so.

"“If this player got injured and their team had to replace them with a minor leaguer or someone from their bench, how much value would the team be losing?” This value is expressed in a wins format, so we could say that Player X is worth 6.3 wins to their team while Player Y is only worth 3.5 wins"

you dont see a problem with the above?

if im a strawman, it still doesnt change the fact that you are the official vice pres of the cub homer club.

"How WAR works: Conceptually, it's simple: WAR is a sum of the win value of a player's offense, defense, pitching, adjusted for that player's defensive position, playing time (thus keeping the replacement level players off the field) and year, park, and league context. The heavy lifting occurs in the individual calculations of the values and constants — as usual, I really just recommend you just use FanGraphs.

The fuzziest of all of these is the concept of the "replacement player." Tom Tango defines it as "the talent level for which you would pay the minimum salary on the open market, or for which you can obtain at minimal cost in a trade." On the other hand, we've all seen our teams struggle with players below replacement level, like Emilio Bonifacio(notes) and Yuniesky Betancourt(notes) (who had WAR of -0.4 and -2.1 last year, literally below replacement level). In the majors last year, there were eight players with a negative WAR. So "replacement level" is more of a theoretical conception rather than a concrete reality."

Nah, you arent bad. there are 2 extreme homers here and you arent one of them. Every fan has that little bit of homer in them, some are just extreme kool aid drinkers.

now*

"Wins Above Replacement. This is a metric that combines a player's contributions on offense and defense and then compares him to the appropriate replacement level for his position. Currently, there are two versions in general use, at Baseball Reference and Fangraphs. "

Really wasn't fishing for compliments there. Was mostly trying to play along with the joke, but thanks.
