Love and Van Lier played in a different era when players were not as good overall. It's alot easier to make a all-star game when that is the case. Look at the stats Houston, Gordon was better. No one would ever admit it (especially not you), but BG was better.

I think that is the problem...you looked at the stats...NOBODY thinks Gordon is better than Sloan and Van Lier but you. That is how you judge relevance. There is no excuse for putting Gordon over Van Lier, Sloan and Love...none

I'm surprised he is even that high, quite frankly, since you take every opportunity you can to tell us how much he sucked. WE GET YOUR POINT.

And you take every opportunity to tell us how his leaving is comparable to watching your girl with another man. I can see that....if your girl is butt ugly! Gordon is not great, shouldn't be treated as if he was...

I saw my favorite baseball player of all time (Frank Thomas) leave, it made me sad...for about 15 seconds.

And you are right...he might not be in my top 10. Especially after next summer...

Ben Gordon was better than Bill Russell ; )

yeah....right!

I agree with Mark, except for Love. Love was better than BG. Kirk Hinrich is the modern day Jerry Sloan.

comparable to the times...is Gordon better than...Oscar Robertson?

He might be...I think my point is you can only look at the dominance of the time. Oscar was far more dominant than Gordon is...and I know of no one who says Gordon is better than the all-time greats. Van Lier was a great defensive player...probably one of the greatest defensive guards in history. He stood out in his time far more than Gordon did. Same with Sloan and Bob Love.

Hinrich is NOT Sloan...if he were...there would be no problems with him...

I think you really overvalue defense in todays nba espically backcourt defense. In today's game good front court defense and offense wins. You don't need the bruce bowens or kirk hinrichs, their value has really become diminished.

to the contrary...the lack of good ball defense in the league makes those types of players more valuable. They don't say defense wins championships for nothing...

Let me give you an example, was Orlando a top 5 defensive team last year? Who besides Dwight Howard was above average defensively? Front court defense and a good concept made them a top 5 defense team that got to the finals and was top 5 defensively.

Orlando went to the finals and lost to a team that had superior wing defensive players.

The Lakers, Spurs, Pistons, Heat...all of them, championship teams...good wing defenders on those teams...

good players do that...he is a good player. He gives up what he gets on the other side of the court. I have seen him miss clutch shot after clutch shot...especially this season.

Aren't you the one who said he had 5 GREAT seasons with the Bulls?

If Hinrich was Sloan I don't think any one here would utter a negative word about him. But he's not. And he never will be.

If that were the case the bobcats would have been NBA champions the last couple season.

If you think defense wins championships, the Bobcats should have won the title. They were one of top defensive teams last season. This year, they have the best defense in the league. The pistons have had a top defense the last 2 years as well. Yet they haven't done jack during that team.

I am not debating why they lost but you missed the point. The Magic were still a top 5 defensive team. All because of howard. You don't need good defense in the backcourt to be a top defensive team. The priority is in the front court and thats why the bulls were a bad defensive team last year and a good one this year. The emergence of Joakim Noah. Ben Gordon played big minutes the three years before last year on top rated defensive teams too. In today's NBA, front court is where your defense is made.

depends obviously we have different expectations for the use of the word great. I think the only people you think would be great would be Lebron Kobe and Wade it seems

You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT my friend. Kobe, Lebron and Wade are great players...Gordon has no business being brought up in a conversation with them.

He is good, never great. Not an allstar, not a hall of fame caliber player, not an all league player. He is not great, Again, an adjective overused.
