To the vast many who seem to be immediately scoffing at the idea of RB as 1st pick...since when was fixing the OL an either/or proposition, and since when was an OL ever fixed with a single pick?

The above addresses a draft day scenario where you assume it's the clear best move for your team to pass on the next Saquon Barkley or Derrick Henry on the cheap for 5 years to instead get a second-tier OL? 🤔 Who knows if Jeanty will be, but I'm certainly not hearing of any OL rated as highly as Jeanty, and def. not any Guards worth that early pick.

FWIW, they have nearly $70 mil projected cap space + another $5.5m savings if cut Everett + $4m if cut Bates.
Chicago Bears Salary Cap Calculator | Over The Cap

OL Needs:
*a starting FA Center (draft & develop also, yes - start a rookie? prob. not),
*1-2 Guards,
*and maybe a LT (IF they land an upgrade there, but if not, they need depth & competition there for sure, but could be okay with good coaching, which they've arguably never had).
I don't think he's a reach. I just don't think that drafting a HB with the 10th pick is going to benefit this offense the most. Ill like the player, just not the pick so much.

The Bears are not the Lions. People bring up that the Lions LT gave up 7 sacks in 2024. The difference is Goff was already a probowl caliber QB with a SB appearance under his belt when the Lions traded for him. He's a vet QB who is going to play through some pressure.

Caleb Williams is only heading into his second year. If you really want to finally get it right with a QB in Chicago, then protect what he can't see. Get him a LT, CENTER & GUARD and in that order.

Alot of people are gaging offensive line prospects off from big boards that are going to look vastly different in 3 months.

It's no surprise that two of the top offensive line prospects were two guys that were on prime time TV the most.

There will be value on offensive linemen. The Bears can get fine value with a second round HB like Hampton, Henderson or Johnson. All of which should be more than capable of giving your offense close to 1750 total yards from scrimmage.

Not only that but next years HB class is already shaping up to be better than this one.

Fix the offensive line already.

Warren is identical to Swift. 5'8 and 215. Same measurements. Swift is quicker. Signing Warren makes zero sense. Harris is the bruiser in Pittsburgh.
Ashton Jeanty and Swift are identical. One is just much better at what he does.
The Bears need a big, 3 down back. No room for 2 of the same guy.

Fantasy wise? yeah Harris sucks. But he is a big, 1000K yd back. The Bears need that or at least draft one to replace Roschon and his brane damage.
It could be a very good move for the 2025 season. A Harris/Swift combo would be fine for Johnson's offense. When he took over as OC in Detroit his running back combo was Jamaal Williams and Swift then Williams had a career year. I would take Harris over Williams every time. Fix the OL and Harris will give you over 4.0 yards per carry. Not great but good stats, and he gives you the hard yards.

If the Bears did something like that, I could see Poles/Johnson using a third for a smaller shiftier back like Henderson or Neal to take Swifts place in 2026.

Kaleb Johnson in the second round would be a win. Far superior to Swift and Roshon and would be a big help to Caleb by forcing the defense to respect the run. Both speed and power.

Depending on FA and how the draft shapes up in the first two rounds, if Hampton or similar RB is there in the 3rd go for it. Doubtful, but never know. Not that high on Scattebo or however you spell that
How about the rb from Iowa?

Kaleb Johnson had a good Big Ten career. But let's not draft a RB with average speed and quickness.

Notre Dames Love would be interesting.

Jeanty would be interesting.

We should be road grading with addition of two premium lineman and a draft pick. Taking Jeanty at 10 would probably do as much for Williams and the o-line as anything could.

Would fucking love it. Johnson isn't only a power HB either, he has a smooth stride with noticeable separation speed, and he hits his stride quick.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if he reels off a 40 time somewhere around 4.45 - 4.48

No one has a crystal ball, but let’s say I am confident one of the early picks will be a rb.

If they take a guy like Simmons in the first and a guy like Neal in the 3rd or 4th, fine.

The Bears have one of the worst rb rooms in the league. Johnson has shown he values good RBs. You are predicting he won’t take a rb in a draft that has a lot of rb talent. I disagree. I think he will, and I think it will be relatively early.
I tend to agree with you....with the BJ hire, he definitely will want to upgrade the RB position.

Latest rumors have Jeanty as a target because supposedly the Bears are prepared to spend big $ to fix the interior of the line.

Bears can be prepared to spend all their cap space on the OL, that doesnt mean those OL want to come here

Part of the rumors of Jeanty to the Bears because Ben Johnson had Gibbs in Detroit are failing to think about Detroit built their OL before they were able to take a luxury pick like Gibbs. Now if the Bears are successful in FA with building the OL, I don't think that rules out more OL help in the draft, but does offer some ability to take a guy like Jeanty. Hampton or K Johnson would be great as well and not have to spend the 10th overall pick on them.

How about Brad Biggs then? Mully and Haugh this morning.

Also those guys on Twitter with 5 k followers were ahead of the credentialed media in a lot of cases, but I don't expect you guys to admit that.

4 of those players the lions drafted.

Right now we have 1 good player on the OL, and another mediocre/solid one who clearly should still be upgraded(braxton) if possible.

Thats 3 interior guys we need to upgrade and zero guarantees the OL in FA will want to come here. A ton of nfl teams have cap space this year.

I agree, the only reason people are linking him is because they drafted gibbs, which makes no sense because i doubt ben johnson was the leader behind that decision as he was playcaller for half a year at that point. He made that run game look great with swift and jamaal williams too.

Also obviously the only reason the bears would spend money on the o-line would be so that they can draft rb.

Brought to you by the same poseur moron who tried to say run protection is a thing

Absolute horseshit.

Not one team is anywhere near to being at the point of "targeting" a player in the draft.

They have just began the real process of fully evaluating the upcoming draft prospects.

Shrine Bowl
Senior Bowl
Combine
Pro Days
Interviews
Private Workouts

Not to mention who they lose/gain in FA.

The key part about FA is the "Free" part, as in the player could choose to go elsewhere.
