HC - Ben Johnson
DC - Robert Saleh

Free agency
1) Trey Smith, G, Chiefs

2) Drew Dalman, C, Falcons

3) Dre Greenlaw, LB, Niners

4) Talanoa Hufanga, SS, Niners

Trade Edmunds for a bag of 🥜

Thank You! I am a Bears fan living in KC and I have been banging the sign Trey Smith club. The Chiefs cannot afford to keep him with all the money they have tied up in the O-Line.

Plus, signing a guy like Smith allows the Bears to grab a young LT early in the draft and protect that investment by having one of the best interior linemen in the game backing him up

Pat mahomes will just restructure his deal to get money deferred 15 years from now so they can afford him.

I don't know if anyone of value will make it to free agency, but this upcoming draft is going to be VERY left guard-heavy. Even the top tackle prospects are being scouted as if they might be better suited at guard.

So I personally believe the Bears should trade down in round 1 to pick up another 2nd round pick, and then load up on 2 guards, a center, and a defensive line player with the first 4 picks (which would be 1 first rounder and 3 2nd rounders).

That should significantly help on the interior of the line.

I am NOT the biggest Braxton Jones fan, but you may have to run it back with him for 1 more year. Although if I were to spend in FA, I would try to lock up a LT to a team friendly 2 year deal to compete with Jones (team friendly not meaning cheap, but low cap hit).

Seems like its roughly 50/50 around here on bringing back Teven.

I wouldn’t mind giving him a 3 year deal. Yeah, he’s hurt too much. Solid when he plays though. More importantly they already have enough holes to fill on the o-line. Why create one more when you already have a guy in house? And I doubt he’s breaking the bank. They have the money.

I’m also cool with letting him go if some team wants to throw a bag at him.

Teven probably doesn't want to come here. This is a litttle like Cosmi with the commanders, but he was actually healthy the year prior to being extended. Teven has had to be helped off the field seemingly every game.

I think it’s a long shot he only gets 1 year on the open market. That’s the only reason I said 3. I guess I could have gone with a 2 year deal. I’m willing to bend a little to keep some semblance of continuity. Plus outside of being hurt too often, he’s a pretty good player.

But yeah, I get the hesitancy.

Some cap notes:

*Tremaine Edmunds' cap hit isn't punitive enough to affect what the Bears do over the offseason, but that $17+ million sure is difficult to look at.

*The Bears are paying Cole Kmet $247,000 per catch. Maybe they'll learn to target him next year?

*$4.2 million for a kicker who's probably a crap-shoot from 50 here on out.

*Some fun players the Bears will still be paying next year:
-Nate Davis
-Peter LeBlanc
-Velus Jones
-Ja-Tyre Carter
-and more.

Actually…..

There really won’t be many. Trey Smith probably doesn’t hit the market. The Patriots need OL and have more money. So expect more dumpster diving and hopefully he hits it heavy in the draft
There's a better the Cheifs let him walk than people may think. If they were willing to let Brown walk and I can see them letting Smith walk too.

When your Head Coach is basically the goose laying golden eggs at drafting/developing offensive line talent they can afford to move on.

If they do let Smith walk, Reid will pick another young replacement, who will have a few bumps in the road for the first 5-6 weeks of the season then play at an increasingly high caliber from there. Almost every time..

This team has to find a way to add an A tier bona-fide offensive linman. If they try to add 3 rookie starters it's going to be an absolute shitstorm. If they try to add 2 rookies and another scrapheap FA, then that's just a more amplified version of what they've been doing so far.

This line needs an anchor now to get a first wave of a legitimate starting 5 up and running, especially if they do draft a new LT & CENTER.

Cut overpaid players with minimal cap hits, trade out of unnecessary cap hits, restructure contracts, kidnapp the bastard, I don't care, do what they need to do. If Trey Smith hits free agency get him in the building.

The ongoing patch up spackle job used to maintain the current offensive and defensive lines isnt going to cut it.

If fans think that it cant get worse than 2024, oh boy are they wrong.

Get Ronnie Stanley and Dalman. Draft 2 OGs. In first 3 rounds and pray coaches can coach them up.

One of the Ravens Oline will be available. Either Stanley or Mekari is available. Ravens will probably keep Mekari for his age. Plus if Monken is new Bears HC, it’s natural to recruit Stanley.

I hope Monken will really be considered. At this point, I am hearing more fans talking about Monken than I have read anything linking him to the Bears as a real possibility.

That’s because no one can do shit until either teams get knocked out or wait until off week of SB.

Johnson, Glenn, Brady, and Monken are still there. Can’t do shit until their teams are knocked out or off week of SB.

Plus teams who show their hand on who they want without getting a commitment from the coach are stupid. We all knew Vrabel to Pats was done deal, only money was the deciding factor. If Bears really want Johnson, then don’t show until they have it writing. Otherwise some other team can swoop in and take him from under the Bears. Also shows other HC prospects they weren’t first choice and get the worst ones.

Bears are already a laughingstock. I remember the signing of Dick Jauron because Dave McGinnis was low balled by Mike McCaskey. How embarrassing.

I had considered that but how they just restructured his contract already, the next 3-4 years, not much they can really do because of the cap hit. Basically, they already restructured it when they needed to lock in Chris Jones and Jawaan Taylor. They would have to get so ridiculously creative that the NFLPA would get involved. Once they get to

So basically nothing the Chiefs can really do with Mahomes contract, unless they look at yet another extension but he is already locked up until 2031, so not sure how you could even calculate that contract. And, I don't believe the NFL allows the Bobby Bonilla style contract either.

Their other option could be to try and trade Tuney since he is going into his final year (age 33) and see if the other team takes on that salary with say another 2-3 year extension.

However, they also need to sign Bolton, their starting LB and Justin Reid as both their deals are done after this season. Chiefs are kind of in some Cap Hell the next couple of seasons.
