Been showing north of 80 mil up to last week. Now showing 66 mil on OTC. Anyone know why?
It was 82 milliom back when there were only 34 players. They then added the contracts of 10 of the practice squad guys which added about 9 million and took us to 44 players. Both OTC and Sportrac added those contracts.

In addition, guys like Gordon, Brisker and Jones are getting pay bumps in their 4 year salaries which OTC has accounted for but Sportrac has not.

Poles was on record saying that there were no Olinemen available for 3 years. Looks like it's gonna be a fourth year.

Some cap notes:

*Tremaine Edmunds' cap hit isn't punitive enough to affect what the Bears do over the offseason, but that $17+ million sure is difficult to look at.

*The Bears are paying Cole Kmet $247,000 per catch. Maybe they'll learn to target him next year?

*$4.2 million for a kicker who's probably a crap-shoot from 50 here on out.

*Some fun players the Bears will still be paying next year:
-Nate Davis
-Peter LeBlanc
-Velus Jones
-Ja-Tyre Carter
-and more.
We have 9th lowest dead cap at 2.3m.

Is there a way to get out of the Sweat contract?
Why? This makes no sense.

For 2025, from a cap perspective, only a trade would make any sense. But this would be stupid. Currently the Bears are looking at needing to add an edge rusher. Not having Sweat bumps that up to needing two.

For 2026 and beyond It's easy to dump him if needed. But still probably a dumb idea.

Why would we want too. His pressures were consistent to last year on a per snap basis. Sacks come in bunches and are a poor indicator of how good someone is playing.
snaps were way down, for unknown reasons. His sacks numbers are not matching the cost. One of the sacks was a Geno slip and fall.

Every single productive stat was down. Everyone! His QB hits were the lowest of his career. He’s getting paid big boy money to perform like a big boy. I’m starting to see why Washington traded him.

Trade him. Not worth the contract. You can get the same production at 1/2 the price. The guy got paid and got lazy

Almost like he was....playing hurt. You explained it to yourself, he played less snaps.

He finished 46th in pass rush snaps and 26th in pressures. If he played a similar amount of snaps he would have finished top 15.

Do you think Will Anderson Jr is good? Because he had similar snaps and pressures.

The bears need another edge to clean up the sacks, montez is not the issue. Yes it would be nice if he finished but a major problem with the bears DL is that the QB avoids a pressure and escapes the pocket. With another good edge that should fix the problem, preferably a speed guy like abdul carter.

Also, you cant trade him because a thing called dead cap exists. 2026 would really be the first year you can

Do get me wrong ... Trading him is a stupid idea, but ...

The cap hit after a trade would only be 12 million which is the remaining part of his prorated signing bonus. All the salary stuff goes to the new team. Meaning the Bears would take a cap hit of 12 million while getting a cap savings of 12 million.

So lose 12m in dead cap while making your team worse. Makes sense.

Who is this FA EDGE that will get you that production for 12 million?

As i mentioned, if he played the same amount of snaps he did in 2023 he would have been 5th in the NFL in total pressures.

I'd say thats pretty good, but maybe not good enough for meatball bears fans :(

48/327×499=73 pressures so again on a per snap basis he was just as productive pressures wise as last year. His snaps were down because he came back after missing the Cards game and was playing banged up.

After they cut Bates and save 3.5million. The Bears will have 10 million invested in the OL for ‘25……
That number will at least triple this offseason. He’ll pay for another edge as well. He’s in the win now or else phase. Being smart about the cap is out the damn window.
Kinda like it became with Pace, too.

Being on a shit team who is always playing from behind and thus is limited with their pass rush opportunities hurts big time as well. How often does he even get a chance to pin his ears back and rush the QB?

Sweat is fine. He also plays the run as well and isn’t a one trick pony. He was also hurt.
