Bears made a mistake taking Williams over Daniels?

We could have had the best quarterback of this class, along with a HAUL. The Bears screwed up.

Let's revisit this after year 3 or so and see what happens. Going into the draft everyone knew that Daniels was accomplished, Nix was the natural mature leader, Caleb was the generational guy that would need time, and Maye was the wild card. That is playing out. Nix and Daniels are possibly at their peak right now and if they maintain then it will be very good careers for both. Maye needs to improve but could also be just what the Patriots need. Caleb showed signs of that special ability and QB play, he needs to mature as a QB and improve on some of the little things. All of this can be true. The rare part is that there are multiple good qbs that were drafted in the same year.

where the Bears screwed up is believing the hype that it was the best situation a rookie QB has been drafted into. They needed to do a lot more work to make that a reality.

If drafting Daniels had meant we got the Commander's results this year including playing in a weaker division and a different coaching staff, then yes, choosing Daniels would be the better move. I don't believe that if you had Daniels on this Bears roster and under the coaching staff we had, we would be saying it was the obvious right choice. Bears did the typical Bears thing and chose what for the most part was the consensus best prospect at #1 and then put them into a system that was flawed and ultimately flopped. I think by mid-season next year, we'll know if Daniels was the better choice but at this point in time, I don't think you can confidently say Daniels was the better choice over Williams given the hypothetical of what he would've looked like in the same conditions that Williams just went through.

I'm also not sure Daniels would've made it through the season healthy behind the Bears oline this year. Daniels has shown a tendency to pull it down and run, which means taking some extra hits. It's a miracle Williams survived this year, but I do wonder if Daniels would've been so lucky.

How do you figure. The Skins drafted Daniels No 2 and quite frankly may have decided going up to 1 wasnt worth it given they had Williams and Daniels graded closely.
Washington was in a great position. And I highly doubt they would've moved up as you said. No need for them to.

Yeah us "Haul" truthers were more like trade #1 to Vegas for a fortune, then take Penix/Nix at #9. Keep Justin Fields and have a real QB competition while also having double first round picks till 2027.

But instead they got an ultra talented quarterback and no idea what to do with him other than draft his draft week buddy Rome Odunze.

On a side note: So were the media & CCS'ers who were so sure Washington was offering 3 firsts for the #1 pick just full of shit?

If that trade had been made, is Washington trading 3 firsts to take the guy they ended up taking anyway? Or are they taking Williams?
