I think the first three are pretty easy IMO:

Halas
Payton
Butkus

The 4th is tough.

Singletary
Ditka
Hampton
Urlacher
Sayers
Luckman
???

Trubisky, Mack, Cohen, and the fourth might be Walter.

I would go Urlacher to make it generational.

On a side note, Payton is amazing. The 80's Bears were all defense, they won the championship on defense.... yet Payton is always #1 when talking about that team. Legendary.

Larry Whigham for me.

For the less refined, I'd go with the best player on the most famous unit in team history, the '85 defense, Dan Hampton. Or Urlacher.

I would have to say Luckman - QB of 4 championship teams, and right there with Graham and Baugh as the best of his generation.

I'd also put Dent on the potential list. To me, he was the the most dominant and perhaps most consistent of those guys. Plus I think with Butkus on the list you may not want another ILB.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Central Florida Knights
  2. TCU Horned Frogs
They need to expand Mt. Rushmore by several spots to do the Bears justice.

I think by the end of the Mack makes the 4th easily.

Thanks for the thread, great topic!

Agreed. Luckman is the most obvious one.

Waiting for people to whine that we can't compare these players because they play different positions.
