Fair enough but soon Poles will need to decide if he is going to exercise JF's 5th year option, and giving him an at least competent O-Line to work behind would help. And if it doesn't fit your "scheme", change your scheme. Because what ever "scheme" they trotted out on the field last year was a massive fail. Can you imagine how anemic the Bears O is, if JF's isn't a scrambling fool?
No, they can improve the all around situation to improve the team. For whatever it is worth, they are tied to Getsy and the outside zone scheme.
So, they need players to match that scheme.
They already have Braxton Jones and the RG they got from the Titans who are perfect fits, as long as Braxton builds up his strength. Ja'Tyre Carter has all of the athletic requirements and a whole year to build up his strength. They have Lucas Patrick who came from Green Bay along with Getsy to play the center position, but basically never did, who should, at worst, be the backup at C. Teven Jenkins can fit the scheme, is a beast but is also an injury risk. The only spot that is 100% not filled is RT.
RT can be filled with the 9th pick such as with Paris Johnson Jr who can be an insurance policy for Braxton, a later round RT, after the draft with a vet RT or even with Jenkins moving to RT.
I also believe that C will be addressed in the draft to at least bring in competition, if not the opening day starter.
As for Fields, I believe that the 5th year option is a given, unless he gets a major injury. He has shown enough to be valuable to another team, even if the Bears decide to draft a QB in 2024. That 5th year will get much more draft capital for the Bears if there is a trade, which I hope doesn't happen.
I am not too worried about the offensive line, beyond the usual growing pains of one or two rookies getting up to speed. Not every team has a ton of 1st round picks on their offensive lines. Offensive lines need cohesiveness more than they need 3 or 4 1st round linemen. The Bears had multiple lines throughout the year, thus, very little cohesiveness.
Fields will be part of the running game, even if it is just the threat of him running. With a better offensive line (which they already are better than 2022), better receivers (check) and better TEs (check), the Bears will be a better passing team and rushing team.
The more Fields progresses, the better both will be.
