goldman has versatility to play outside as well. also he's a vastly superior prospect. even if williams by some miracle turns out to be a stud nose tackle i don't see why that would make the goldman pick stupid. goldman was a 1st round prospect and great value in the 2nd at a position of need. williams was a consensus undrafted free agent with like 4 suspensions in college. have no idea what one has to do with the other.

For what it is worth:

Ethan's Top 10 DTs to Date:

1. Leonard Williams, USC

2. Terry Williams, East Carolina

3. Eddie Goldman, Florida State

He didn't have one suspension. He had two:

07/19/12 - East Carolina sophomore nose tackle Terry Williams has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities effective immediately following a drug-related arrest according to an announcement from head football coach Ruffin McNeill Thursday afternoon.

09/24/13 - East Carolina has suspended starting nose tackle Terry Williams indefinitely for a violation of team policy. Coach Ruffin McNeill said Tuesday in a statement that Williams "did not adhere to the conduct standards we have in place" but he didn't say exactly why the junior was suspended.

I actually disagree with this. I can easily see how an UDFA can make a GM look stupid. The thing is, the media will emphasize the failure of the higher pick, rathet than focusing on the success of the UDFA.

For example, many Browns fans were made that UDFA were jumping Justin Gilbert on the depth chart. I will say though, that in such cases it is rare for the UDFA to be from the same rookie class as the high draft pick.

Except that the failure of the high pick was not part of the conversation, nor was that pick's failure mentioned as a requirement to the stupidity.

The statement was that if "Williams, (who was not invited to the draft combine) plays the way that he can play, that it will make the Goldman pick look stupid"

It was countered with the fact that "if Williams turned out well, it would have nothing to do with Goldman"

Nobody said anything abut Goldman failing or not turning out well.

In your Browns example, what's making the Browns look bad was that Gilbert was not doing well, as opposed to the UNDFA doing well making the Browns look bad.
