Sagbear is correct, it has nothing to do with making the Goldman pick look stupid, if he turned out to be a player.

Williams didn't even get a combine invite and has less than a 1/100 shot to become a better player than Goldman, if that.

Is it your suggestion that Pace was thinking..."You know, I'm really thinking about taking Eddie Goldman in the third, but my only hesitation is that drug dealer/malcontent kid Terry Williams from ECU somehow making our team from a minicamp tryout, then becoming an animal which would make me look stupid. Because they play the same position?"

The Headlines might read "Pace looks like an idiot because rookie camp tryout Terry Williams beat the odds, reformed himself, and now plays like an animal, rendering 3rd round pick Eddie Goldman completely useless and therefore a stupid pick. Because they play the same position"

Or simply.. "Undrafted Drug Dealer Plays Well...Pace is Stupid"

2nd round pick Eddie Goldman.

What is it with this thread and people not being able to figure out where we drafted players? Greene as a third rounder, now Goldman as a third rounder.

I really like how he gets off his blocker to make the tackle on the RB.

[Terry Williams]....At first glance I am reminded of Zach Minter an UDFA from Montana State that we brought in a few years back.....he could muscle through the line and be very Beastly......the problem that he had which Terry to his credit does not seem to have......is that the guy would blow past the ball carrier and just plain miss tackles. he was always in the backfield....just couldn't seem to tackle anything or anyone....

Williams is very nimble for a very big man and has that ability to shed the block and make the tackle. Check out those one handed ankle tackles in traffic he makes. The guy can "Play in Traffic" and make tackles. My kind of fatty! (Minter is currently on the Dallas Roster....I certainly hope he has learned to tackle.)

You're under minding the fact that he went undrafted due to personal issues/character concerns, not based on talent. I'm not saying it will happen but the guy has a chance to be a very good NT & could ultimately make a 2nd round pick at NT look bad if he pans out. Take it how you want.

  2. Utah Jazz

  1. Utah Utes
Yeah, I know, somebody already corrected that. I always get that confused because I think we lacked a pick that year, maybe it was the 2nd round, for Marshall?

Third rounder for Marshall.

Is anyone actually complaining about Williams actually playing well...?! Yeah....like we got sooooo much depth at NT. Brandon Dunn.......(read: "done.")....?! I'd like to see Ratliff and Ferguson more as DEs....even occasionally moving Eddie from NT to DE.......we need someone directly behind Eddie Goldman on the depth chart....I hope this is our guy! He CAN tackle and play stout at the Point of Attack....Terry's a good football player!...

Yeah not sure why this is a problem.

To the guy saying Goldman could look like a wasted pick because of Williams. Where you saying is that The Bears should have know what UDFA's were going to be available and then draft accordingly, or are you saying that they should not have signed him in order to justify the pick?

Marshall was dealt for 3rd rounders. Which makes the mistake that much weirder.

What's weird is that this is so important to you. Three posts above yours somebody said the same thing. Also before you posted yours, it was pointed out 3rd not 4th round. It has nothing to do with the point, it was a wasted draft pick, period. Knock it off.

Any way you look at it, it was our 3rd pick of the draft, and that is really what I was referring to, and the reason I was off by a round is we traded one of the earlier draft picks for Marshall. Why does this matter so much to you?

Bucs claim Greene hahahahaha

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Buccaneers have claimed safety D.J. Swearinger off waivers from the Houston Texans.

Swearinger likely will get a chance at a staring safety job along with Bradley McDougald, Major Wright and Chris Conte.

The team also said Tuesday it had claimed linebacker Khaseem Greene off waivers from Chicago. Greene likely will have a chance to be a backup linebacker and a regular on special teams.

well he was a mid/late 4th rounder but yeah, not a great pick.

emery did okay in the first two rounds but his best mid/late round pick was jordan mills. which is saying something.

The Mills' pick was OK, but I wish they had got Rick Wagner out of Wisconsin instead who went to Baltimore five picks later.

I am neither "under minding", nor undermining that fact in any way, it's not relevant to the conversation.

The fact is, that Williams is a long shot, it doesn't matter the reason he is a longshot. You said if he plays like an animal, then the Goldman pick would look stupid.

There is no logic to this line of thinking. Can you give one example of when a longshot player made it, and the GM looked stupid for picking a player high in the draft at the same position, regardless of how well the drafted player played?

As mentioned, a UNDFA making the team only makes the GM look better, not worse.

There's lot's of players that slip down/out of the draft because of off the field issues... what makes this player different than any of the others?

I understand you were observing these players at rookie minicamp, is that correct? Or do I have that wrong? What did you see in this player that made him stand out?

You guys got me confused about how we lost those 1st-3rd round picks since the Cutler trade, so FYI:

The 2009 1st, 2009 3rd and 2010 1st were sent to Denver for Cutler.

The 2009 2nd was sent to Seattle for the Seahawk’s 2009 3rd and 2009 4th.

The 2010 2nd was sent to Tampa for Gaines Adams.

The 2012 3rd and 2013 3rd were sent to Miami for Marshall. (The 2012 pick was the one they acquired from Carolina for Greg Olsen.)

Thanks for the clarification, it certainly is confusing, and equally hard to remember, probably because it is a bit depressing.

I actually disagree with this. I can easily see how an UDFA can make a GM look stupid. The thing is, the media will emphasize the failure of the higher pick, rathet than focusing on the success of the UDFA.

For example, many Browns fans were made that UDFA were jumping Justin Gilbert on the depth chart. I will say though, that in such cases it is rare for the UDFA to be from the same rookie class as the high draft pick.
