Cut him when we supposedly have an awesome DB coach coming in?

Its one thing to get rid of a guy if he does something egregious and refuses to be held accountable.

Much harder to argue that someone crossed your line before you arrived.

Just wait and see, if BJ is a good coach he'll impose a macro-level discipline on the entire team.

He won't need to tell Stevenson not to **** around.

Stevenson has made some boneheaded mistakes, yes, but there's a big difference between being a world class trash talker with maturity problems and being a lockerroom cancer.

The right coaching and accountability probably fix Stevenson long-term

I will say, the energy on this team is basically non-existent.

You watch other games, even mediocre-to-subpar teams run around with urgency and purpose. I really see none of that when I watched Bears football this past season. Everything they do, it's like it's in slow-motion.

The self righteous pearl clutching by people as if young people can't make mistakes and learn from it. It's as if they simply get their rocks off at the thought of firing someone.

There's plenty of worse things out there than what Stevenson did, get over yourself and move on.

No. Ben just needs to sit down and talk with him, express his concern over the BS he did, and then tell him they can work together , but to get his head on straight. He's too talented to just eject.
I'm one of those who doesn't think Tyrique is all that great. In fact, I think he's just OK, and I'd be happy to have a better option at CB. But until that is possible, we can't move on. And, as long as he shows some growth and maturity, I'm fine keeping him as eventual depth. But for now, he's a Bear.

Yes. And then show him tape of all of his great plays. Tell him you have the potential to be great. Stop putting all the obstacles to that happening up yourself.

I think Stevenson is a testament to how poorly coached the team was and still young enough to turn it around with better coaching.

Kinda like Caleb Williams, only about 300% less important to the overall team.

If Stevenson is good but you don't like him for the team, the best two options are to either trade him so you get a return, or have him continue to play through his contract and then enter FA (oh how I love comp picks!)

Cutting him right now seems wasteful. I don't cheer for waste.

Many of the top corners in the league are traditionallly a bit eccentric and get into wars with the top receivers. People tend to emphasize the negatives (personal fouls, unsportsmanlike conduct calls, etc), and not give credit for frustrated the shit out of receivers, etc.

This past season, some negatives came in inopportune times. He's young. Let's see what this upcoming year brings.

This hate on Stevenson is way overblown.

He's actually a good player minus one bone headed mistake that he'll never make again.
He's not good enough yet to offset the BS that has come with him. And it's way more than "one bondheaded mistake".

In addition to his many shenanigans, there were a lot of big-time moments he just didn't show up in, got burned, etc.

By the way, every time the media has asked him about an eye-poke, or an untimely fight, or the Hail Mary, he's made it clear he doesn't believe he's the problem. This is concerning, IMO. It seems to indicate he's not learning from his mistakes.

If the new coaching staff can straighten him out and get the most out of him, I've got no problem with that. If they want to let him be someone else's problem, I'm fine with that too.

I mean why stop there?

If your going to reset the culture let's make sure to do it right. Cut everyone. Can't risk missing even one.

My experience with the draft simulators show it would only take about six trade downs and you'd have enough picks to field an entire team.

I actually think the entire defense has a unique opportunity to make a leap this offseason if they allow themselves to really be coached. Your new head coach gameplanned against you 2x a year just last season and obviously more if they've been with the Bears a while. Johnson can say this is what we saw on film and how we wanted to attack you/where we thought as an opponent you were vulnerable. It's an opportunity to strengthen your game if you're open to hearing it and taking that coaching to heart to get better. Obviously, the defense will look a little different schematically, but I wouldn't be surprised if individual players made growths in areas they were previously weaker at.

The bears supposedly hiring THE db coach than can help him, but, instead they should cut ties with him? sounds very bear-like.

The first thing Ben Johnson should do is cut Tyrique Stevenson. Trade for him if you can, but even if you can’t, one way or another, find a way to get rid of him, immediately.

I know what you’re thinking. Wait a minute, he’s good!

I agree, I actually think he’s great,…at times. But the problem is, he’s got a bad attitude, and those things spread, like a stomach bug on a cruise ship.

You want to fix the culture? Save the cliched speeches. Take a bold action that shows this is how we do things now. This is the standard. This is what will, and will not, be tolerated.

Yes, it’s difficult. But that’s exactly why this action will have impact. If he wasn’t any good, nobody would notice, or care.

And make no mistake, this team’s biggest problem is culture. Even before the season was lost they were playing at half speed for the first three quarters of every game. That’s purely culture and attitude.

Did you watch the playoffs? Do you see the way those guys are flying around? The urgency and effort? I know it’s playoff football, and that kicks it up a notch. But you could kick it down 10 notches and you still wouldn’t have Bears football. It looks like a different sport.

I can’t stress enough the importance of doing this asap, before you get to know him, and like him, and appreciate all his upside, and the context of all his actions. Blah, blah blah. Do it now. That single action will make everyone else on the roster 10% more alert, more focused, more energized, and better.

Only 10%?

No thanks.

The life of being the guy that has to play across from the guy that nobody throws at.
