This hate on Stevenson is way overblown.

He's actually a good player minus one bone headed mistake that he'll never make again.
It is overblown. Not only that but he was primarily a PRESS/MAN CB at Miami. The Bears took him and asked him to play totally different coverage techniques than what he did in Miami.

Tyrique Stevenson really was developing into Eberflus's defensive scheme fairly well for a position that comes with a lengthy learning curve.

I like Bears starting 3 CBs for this scheme. Jaylon Johnson played alot of MAN coverage at Utah and early on in his pro career. He isn't the best PRESS CB but he is a nicely balanced MAN/ZONE cover CB.

Gordon is developing into a complete Nickle CB who can play well in PRESS/MAN or ZONE, who does very in run defense, and delays.

I like all 3 of the Bears starting CBs better for the scheme they're about to play in over the system they were previously in under Eberflus.

If you plug a complete 3TECH like Walter Nolen into the middle of this defense and this entire defensive unit will be a nightmare.

The first thing Ben Johnson should do is cut Tyrique Stevenson. Trade for him if you can, but even if you can’t, one way or another, find a way to get rid of him, immediately.

I know what you’re thinking. Wait a minute, he’s good!

I agree, I actually think he’s great,…at times. But the problem is, he’s got a bad attitude, and those things spread, like a stomach bug on a cruise ship.

You want to fix the culture? Save the cliched speeches. Take a bold action that shows this is how we do things now. This is the standard. This is what will, and will not, be tolerated.

Yes, it’s difficult. But that’s exactly why this action will have impact. If he wasn’t any good, nobody would notice, or care.

And make no mistake, this team’s biggest problem is culture. Even before the season was lost they were playing at half speed for the first three quarters of every game. That’s purely culture and attitude.

Did you watch the playoffs? Do you see the way those guys are flying around? The urgency and effort? I know it’s playoff football, and that kicks it up a notch. But you could kick it down 10 notches and you still wouldn’t have Bears football. It looks like a different sport.

I can’t stress enough the importance of doing this asap, before you get to know him, and like him, and appreciate all his upside, and the context of all his actions. Blah, blah blah. Do it now. That single action will make everyone else on the roster 10% more alert, more focused, more energized, and better.

I think everyone should get a clean slate coming in under a new regime.

If he's a knucklehead after that, then you deal with that.

He feels like the biggest scapegoat of all time since the hail mary
Absolutely, and looking in this thread it seems a ton of fans still don’t know the back of the endzone defender was supposed to be the safety (Hicks), not Stevenson. Tyrique was an idiot on that play but the Fail Mary happened because a backup safety forgot his responsibility on a niche play he barely practiced and the HC didn’t even call a TO before it to remind/focus the team on their duties.

No. Ben just needs to sit down and talk with him, express his concern over the BS he did, and then tell him they can work together , but to get his head on straight. He's too talented to just eject.
Pretty sure our new HC is going to judge him on what he's doing/done since he's been HC for the Chicago Bears, not what happened last year.

Is this true because i thought i heard that it was Tyrique who was supposed to be covering the back man?
