Was last year a sophomore slump.

Truly I don't think he will be a player that ever can give efficient physical effort all year long. But will in spurts and the playoffs which is a good asset.

good 3rd liner that is tough to want to pay much more than 1.25.

Hawks have plenty of Bickells in Rockford.

Sign Stalberg. You cant teach speed.

no to stalberg part. we also have enough speed.

Not like Stalberg, we don't. There isn't another player on the Hawks who comes close to Stalberg. His shitty hands ruin what could be a complete elite talent just on the basis of his speed. The list is short on who might be faster then the guy in the entire league. Saw him catch Hall from Edmonton from behind...might be the only person who could not named Grabner.

Its a toss up. Do you resign the palooka who plays just good enough or the guy with elite speed and pretty much nothing else. Theres a log jam in Rockford with players like Pirri and Morin who have nothing left to prove there. Chances are Bowman doesn't resign either.

If it was my choice, If sign Stalberg. That speed of his scares the shit out of defenseman. Twice he turnstyled Suter. If he had even Biran Noonans mits he would be a 30 goal scorer, but I am getting ahead of myself. Teach him PK and jettison Frolik. Stalberg on the PK would be fun to watch.

Stalberg has been watched on the pk in fill in 3rd pair shifts and it hasn't been fun in those instances.

I'm not sure who you think in the system they have like bickell. Apart from a questionable Beach but calling someone like Hayes a Bickell isn't much. Unless you just think being big bodied and lackluster is the description.

They didn't have guys like Versteeg and Buff either, but they move on with what fits beyond that.

That's a small sample size. Frolik is highly dispensable if cap room next year is a concern and the Hawks want to keep speed over a stray body who does nothing but PK very good. To think Stalberg couldn't fill that roll to go along with his elite speed? IDK. Stalbergs saving grace is his unique set of wheels for a big body.

Pretty much. Bickell is a big body on a cheap contract who shows up once in awhile to make an impact. You could get the same production out of Hayes, Morin, even Smith minus the size. All three you can plug into the third line and get similar production from. Beach is a joke. He will never amount to shit on the Hawks and we already have him up on the big team wearing a Carcillo jersey. I highly doubt he even gets resigned during the summer.

Not having Versteeg is a good thing. He turned the puck over way too much and had a horrible habit of trying to emulate Kane when he doesn't have Kanes skill set. Good riddance. Players like Buff don't come around too much and sadly somebody like him might never pass thru Chicago for a long time. They still miss him obviously in front of the net but like you said, they moved on. Just getting out of the first round this year after two failed attempts the years prior shows just how much of an impact Buff had and while I don't think either team wins a Cup, I think with Buff they might have gotten past the Nucks and Yotes before bowing out. But that's just my opinion.

Stalberg is gonna be too expensive.

Bickell can take 1.25 or less or he can walk too

I agree on both accounts now that theres whispers Stalberg could command 3 million. He isn't worth that much even with his wheels and pure dominance of the Jackets.

I am a fan of Morin, Pirri, and Smith. Might be time for them to come up after the Hawks win another Cup and start over.

I am perhaps the biggest Stalberg fan in the world (as many here know) but there is no way he is worth 3 mil. 2-2.25 I would be OK with, but I would still be a bit hesitant

Stalbergs funny. Some times he looks like he finally gets it then most of the time he looks clueless. He has obviously watched Hossa on how to shield the puck a bit better but his hands are just so bad I highly doubt whomever it is spends a lot of money on him gets its worth.

If Stalberg developed some hands he would be electric

Why is it anytime I hear discussion about guys on the Hawks 3rd line people talk about them like they are 1st line busts? People still bash Versteeg today.... now its Stalberg aint worth shit and Bickel aint worth shit.... how bout they are good 3rd line players who fill their roles well on that line?

I feel like anytime I hear Hawk fans talk about Hawk players and its not Toews they talk shit.... Hossa is too old, Kane doesnt play enough defense and doesnt score enough, Sharp is injured too much, Bolland sucks at everything, Saad does not complement Toews and Hossa well enough, Stalberg's hands suck, Bickel does not always show up, Frolik sucks too much to be on the team.... I hear all this shit from Hawks fans, not specifically people in this thread, but I just don't get it lol they are winning hockey games ffs.

I agree we don't need to overspend on 3rd line players, but stop bashing these guys like we expect them to play on the 1st line.

Winning games has nothing to do with this topic.

And given that Bickell is a UFA after the season, it warrants a discussion.

see the problem with this argument is that rarely do our 3rd line players stay on the third line...Q constantly moves players up and down the lines so our 3rd liners suddenly are 1st liners.

also, just because they are 3rd liners here doesnt mean they would be elsewhere...stalberg is a fine example. he is a top lines forward on 50-75% of the league

and also, fans ***** because they see things wrong with player's skill set... stalberg's hands are sub par for example

as for people complaining about hossa, kane, etc they are just looking for attention

I think he is a big man nobody can really mess with physically. He has a bigtime slapshot with great percentages.

The sabermetrics say he is a good player, but I think the intangible aspect of balancing out the other skill/speed players with some power can't be understated.

I would be sad if we developed him all this time and lost him. Keep in mind that big men often take an extra 2-5 years to fully develop their coordination and really use their size to their advantage. I don't know if we can afford him, but it would be silly to think we can just bring up guys from Rockford as far along as he is.

I'm not sure if his production is because of UFA or what, but I'm surprised that no one has commented Bickell's shot. His wrist shot and slap shots are just nasty, probably the second or third best on the team. With that said, he doesn't create his own shots very well... 80% of his goals come because of Stalberg's speed or a nice pass from Shaw.
