So we take the worst of the 4 prospects and a questionable 2nd round pick who probably isn't a LT at #20

#soundslikeryanpace

I keep reading he might be moved inside

Bears and tons of other teams restructure contracts a the time .... it’s a testament to how the Mccaskeys r cool with cash flow .... a team like the packers cannot do that
The Packers literally did it two days ago.

Still the point is, restructuring means they are willing to pay more now guaranteed, as opposed to keeping it in the future where they could even cut the player and SAVE money.

When you consider the statement that they won’t draft a QB in the first round because they won’t help the team win this year, that says everything. That is exactly why it made no sense to bring back a GM and HC needing to win now to save their jobs, with a roster that needs a complete rebuild.

But when you realize NO ONE in the Bears organization has said any of that...

The Bears are making moves that indicate this is a transition year, as they take money off the defense to eventually spend it on the offense next year.

None of the Bears’ moves have been desperation moves by a GM scared for his job. Even the Dalton deal—which I’m not a big fan of—was small peanuts for a starting quarterback.

They could either take a QB early in the draft or not. Doing one or the other does not indicate the safety of Pace’s job.

Pace is safe, and he knows it. This is the transition year before he dumps the rest of the high-priced defense next offseason and goes on an offensive spending spree, using a QB from either the 2021 or 2022 draft.

2021 Pace is actually setting up 2022 Pace quite nicely to start over with a blank slate and safe from bloated contracts.

This is one way to read it, the other way to read is that Ryan Pace still thinks this is the 2018 team that could've won the Super Bowl and all he needs are a few minor tweaks. Its hard to really say what his job status is, I tend to think there is absolutely no way he survives a season where the Bears lose more than half their games. The calls for his head will be at a fever pitch, the Bears brass has never stood defiant to intense public scrutiny.

Where’s the lie?

Whoever the 2022 GM is (I’m thinking it will still be Pace, because Bears) can gain a ton of cap room by dumping Hicks and Mack. He already got out from under Fuller’s contract, and can get out from Dalton’s after this year.

Thus, whoever next year’s GM is will have a blank slate—if they want it—a bunch of cap room and a lack of bloated contracts, allowing them to transition into paying offensive players rather than defensive players.

I do not believe for a second the Bears aren’t exploring every option at QB. That includes the draft. And why would a team just give away their position as far as what they’re doing during the draft? There is no way Pace or whoever would just give that info away. Complete nonsense. No team would be like “we’re definitely not going this position.”
