Current matchup is Hawks vs. Preds. Not sure why everyone here thinks we are going to play Blues first round.

Because the cynical nature to assume the hawks will lose to Colorado and Minnesota will win

Can one of the mods do something about JJ being on the hawks board?

Nashville is basically begging the Hawks to take home ice in the first round.
I'm glad the Hawks have a pretty decent road record this season.
Maybe Roy will come out of retirement next game and pitch a SO for the Avs.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Honestly I think Crawfiord and Darling looking good at this point of the season is a damned good thing. Everythi9ng else should be fixible--especially since it doesn't look like the 'hawks are playing full tilt--they look like they're playing to just not get injured.

Seriously, Bickell and Shaw's goals came from driving the net and playing how they should play. The goals against are either stupid plays or choking like Mama Cass devensively. What the team needs is O and it's patently obvious that Sharp, Saad, Hossa, and to a lesser extent Toews are just coasting and playing to not get inujred. I'm not expecting much from Kris Versteeg or Antoinne Vermette except for them to look at hockey from a male point of view. But, that being said, It does mean there's a next level when Toews, Sharp, Hoss, and Saad decide to turn it up a notch--the question will be the degree they can. If the 'hawks don't, it will be a hard lesson about not having the talent to win on talent alone (or rather, talent is worth nothing more than liquid shit if it's not brought to bear), but we've seen it from this team this year multiple times--they can crank it up a notch and when they do they're scary good.

I think the playoffs go eitther 1 of 2 ways--the team gets completely obliterated in the 1st round and the media calls everything into question (Q, Toews leaderhip, Vermette's worthlessness, Stan's acquistitions, Hossa, Sharp, Timonen, & Rosival's geriatrics, Crawford's netminding, etc.), or from a Greg Luganis level of positivity, The 'hawks come out and play like we know they can and surprise the hell out of everyone, and go deep. My gut is erring with my frosted side right now.

And if you guys think the Hawks are slumping ... Nashville's lost FIVE straight. Give them in Round One all day.

Can't wait to laugh at yet another failed attempt by the Preds to "Keep the Red Out."

I think this is probably the most likely scenario.

The Hawks will play the Preds if they get 1 or 2 points against the Avalanche. The Hawks play the Preds even if the Hawks lose in regulation to the Avalanche and the Wild lose to the Blues in reg, OT or the SO. The Hawks (39 ROW) play the Blues if they lose in regulation and Wild (41 ROW) win in reg, OT or the SO.

The Blues (107 pts, 41 ROW) can still win the Conference and play the Jets, instead of the Wild or Hawks, in the first round if they beat the Wild and the Ducks (107 pts, 42 ROW) lose in reg, OT or the SO to the Yotes. Even if the Duck win in the SO, and both teams have 42 ROW, Ducks win the Conference, due to beating the Blues 2 of 3 games, head to head this season.

This is the scenario I want. Both teams are struggling, but I think we can win this match-up easier than playing the Blues in the first round. Now that's an understatement. If our series with the Preds goes 6 or 7, we may have Kane back by the end of the first. Hopefully Kane will be back in the second round if we're facing the Blues, Wild or a remote possibility the Jets (if the Blues win the conference and the Jets upset them in the first round.) With the Blues recent history of shitting the bed in the playoffs, blowing 2-0 leads versus the Kings two seasons ago and the Hawks last season, it'll be interesting to see if their goaltending holds up and how jittery they are in the first round. That is all.

I think the Hawks/Preds series would be a ton more entertaining, too. Nashville is playing a much more wide-open game these days than they have in the past.

Yep, those last two games vs. the Blues sucked as a Hawks fan because we lost, and sucked as a hockey fan due to the Blues trapping and clogging up the middle of the ice all game long, both games.

Definitely. If Minnesota and St. Louis meet in the first round, which looks likely, that's going to be a painfully boring dump-and-chase kind of series. And they both fucking deserve it for playing that shitty brand of hockey.

I'm not sure the Hawks will be able to beat anyone if they are icing Rundblad and Rozsival, and the D pairings we've seen the last two games.... Neither one of these clowns belongs in the NHL.

Hopefully, by late Saturday afternoon, we'll already know we're playing the Preds - if the Wild lose in reg, OT or the SO to the Blues - and the Lanche game will be meaningless (except for someone to pad their stats a wee bit). I think the Hawks can get a point or two versus the Lanche Saturday night, if necessary, but would rather not have them test that theory.

Prepare to see Leddy-like minutes a la Boston for 32 and 5 in the post season.
