I think I read Montador was practicing during the Phoenix series. Kinda got the impression that he could have returned if the playoff run had some legs.

Dale rebuilt Florida in 1 summer. 72 points in 2011 to 94 points in 2012.

Think he couldn't cobble together a few pieces to play around the core of the Hawks?

Jesus.

One year is not a trend. Florida had a great year in a pretty awful division. First-round exit, too.

From last year to this year, I'll give Tallon big marks for what he did in Florida. But I'll want to see sustained success out of Florida before I give crown him. <Denny Green gif here>

And let's be frank about Tallon: he did a great job of building and drafting a Cup team. But he also completely fucked that team financially and was very fortunate that they won a Cup.

If you can't manage the salary cap, you can't be called a good GM.

Still not convinced that Montador won't solve some of the Blackhawks problems on the 2nd D-pairing next year, provided that he can stay healthy.

Florida is going to get better.

Huberdeau will make the team next year and by all accounts will be a difference maker. They also have a legitimate goalie prospect (imagine that) in Markstrom.

On defense Gudbranson is flat out GOOD and if they can re-sign Garrison, they're in even better shape.

They're in good shape and it's because Dale knows how to put together a team. You can discredit what he did all you want due to a "weak division" but it's pretty ridiculous. Nobody said that was a weak division going into the season with Tampa coming 1 goal from making the cup finals and Washington being a perennial favorite. Dale did exactly what Stan hasn't been able to do- put together guys that everyone considers spare parts (cast offs, bad contracts, etc)- and form them into a winning team.

Remind me though... what did Dale do to that so terribly screwed the Hawks' cap situation?
