I suppose that this may be a news flash for some, but 4th lines don't win championships -rather it is team defence.

:clap::clap::clap:

Exactly. That was the biggest difference between 2009-10 Hawks and 2010-11 Hawks.

No, you can be negative all you want. And yeah, mistakes do get made. But the fact remains- people that actually know what's going on are the ones pulling the strings here.

Maybe Scotty likes Stalberg's compete level. Maybe Q sees one tiny aspect of Stalberg's game that he thinks fills a need on this team. Maybe Stan has been talking to a GM or two that have shown some interest in Stalberg and there could be a deal made somewhere down the road.

These guys see Stalberg play and practice day in and day out. They coach him, they watch film on him and they get feedback from scouts, coaches, teammates and other people in the organization as well as from around the league. These guys have so much more information available and they have the burden to not only plan for tomorrow, but to plan for a year from tomorrow.

You and I see Stalberg play in 82+ games. We get his stat sheet and the occasional press piece where Pierre Lebrun says Stalberg doesn't score enough. That's about it. And all those guys in the front office? They get all this stuff too.

Again, you can be as negative as you want. But when it comes to a 4th line player that's getting paid jack shit for a measly 2 years on a team that has plenty of cap space- it just comes off as a glorious waste of energy, especially when you consider all I said above.

Or the organization is trying to save face after Burke raped us for Steeger..

Waste of money and space on the team.

Oh well, according to most of the people here, no one is allowed to criticize the front office of the Hawks, so what's the point with the discussion anyway? The Hawks GM & Co. can do no wrong!!! ;)

And according to you, everything they do is detrimental to the team, so it goes both ways.

...No Joe, as was stated repeatedly last season at this time -- that was because the team was over the salary cap - and you were in fact offered the benefit of the doubt, and asked what your solution was - but that it had to be cap compliant.

You elected, as always, not to ever address those, but to continue on ranting. People that are newer to the board should be aware of the context of your comments.

If you are going to re-address the Versteeg stuff, then feel free to analyse the 2010-11 salary cap and how you could have retained Versteeg. Mind you it has to be mathematically sound as well.

___

Gunzaan: - actually the point might be more along the lines of the front office is accountable to their own management. Since the team isn't cap stressed, I fail to see what the issue is here; it isn't exactly like it was a Campbell or Huet contract... so maybe it is more about -

why some folks seem to go off half cocked for a guy that doesn't have to make the team, and doesn't have a contract that will force decisions on who to keep or let go.

Frankly it is a mystery, or a Cluster Troll. . .

Either way, it has zip to do with reality or business management, ice hockey, or the NHL... no matter how much self-righteous freedom of speechisms get lobbed out there.

Thats never going to happen...

As for the Stalberg stuff..

some people like him, others dont..

Obviously everyone will have their own opinion on what the FO is doing, and thats where the beauty of a message board comes in so that we can debate our stances...

Just because we like some or most of the moves the FO did this summer doesnt make people "homers"

Nobody will truly know how well or bad this offseason went until next May/June when the Hawks are either battling for the cup or golfing early again

That's not true at all. I was very positive about most, if not all, of their free agent dealings this year.

Of course their are only accountable to their own management. I completely understand what direction the team is trying to move towards and I also completely understand that they are trying to do this while manipulating the salary cap to make sense for not only this year but the next 5+ years.

I'm not some troll that doesn't understand how hockey works or how management works. I basically agree with most of the decisions, trades, and signings that have gone on this off-season. I like the direction the team is going and am excited for next year.

On the other side of the coin, management could give a flying **** what I or anyone else on this forum thinks. But the whole point of this message board is to voice our opinions as fans, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Personally, I don't care how cheap they signed Stalberg for, I think he is a bum. I'm not sorry at all if someone disagrees with me.

Lumping me in with some of the other people who disagree with this move but also disagree with everything the Hawks do is irresponsible. That just isn't the case.

so where do you come off saying that we all think the FO can do no harm?

Because you and a few others NEVER, EVER agree when people question Hawks GM moves this year. I've seen Dews make quite a few good points but he gets dismissed as a "hater" without a proper rebuttal.

Sure, a few people are ALL hate, but it seems as if you question a move in the past 2 years, you are immediately labeled a hater. I actually like MOST of the moves this offseason but I also have no problem saying that I am not impressed with the signing of a bum.

From where I am coming from, some are way too loose with the "homer" angle, if they disagree with their opinion; however to clarify my position on office moves - I take the point of view of analysing same, after the fact.

I do not expect everyone to do that, but at the same time am not going to apologise for not getting my knickers in a twist over basically what will have no impact upon a non-core player.

That is, has, and will be where I am coming from when discussing (ice) hockey.

he did the same thing in this thread...I like the signing, and he asked me if I ever think any moves were bad

I also like MOST of the moves this offseason, not all but since I like Stalberg who was re-signed, I was labeled a "homer"

And read again bro, I have agreed numerous times about not getting a 2nd line center...I also am not totally sold on the carcillo signing until I see what style he will play
