Snagged him for 1.3?! I'll take that for sure! To bad we had to just walk away but at this point, what could we really have gotten back when everybody knew we wanted to walk away. It would have been nice to get anything but a low end pick isn't that big of a deal in my book. Welcome to the Chi Turco!

Glad Turco is happy to play here..

Also, with just a 1 year contract, hopefully he will play better because he knows he's playing for another contract next summer

Poor people who ran out & bought Niemi jerseys/shirts.

I'm getting a Turco shirt when it comes out.

Really great of him to wait out his free agency and take less money and years to play here. You can tell he is driven to win and I think he will outperform Niemi next year and as added incentive he has a chance to earn a longer stay in Chicago because goaltenders can play effectively into their late 30s. With our defense in front of him and our puck possession game I see Turco (who has been good in recent years and very consistent his entire career) become more the player he was 4 years ago.

Also anther thing not being noted is this adds a veteran presences back to our young teams locker room with John Madden moving on. I know we have a great young captain but he really has not faced adversity at all in his NHL career (Calder Finalist, Western Conference Finals, All Star, Gold Medal Winner, Stanley Cup, Best Forward at the Olympics, Conn Smythe) and Turco can help the players keep focus during some rough stretches.

Very true, something alot of people, including myself overlook is what players can add to the locker room. Turco has been through te grind of the season and has played the level necessary to make the playoffs in the past. He will be a nice little mentor to Crawford as well.

Turco is a high character person and more of a leader and personality than Madden as well. If a person like Kyle Beach does in fact make the roster and gets hot headed after a poor performance I would see Turco as the guy to calm a player like that down and help him keep focus.

I don't want Turco to actively mentor Crawford, I want Marty to focus solely on playing his best hockey this season and earning the starting job for a couple seasons. Crawford should learn by watching the way Turco plays and conducts himself on and off the ice.

Also a fun fact about Marty Turco is he set the record for GAA average in a season during the modern hockey era in 02-03... it was broken the next season by Kiprusoff, but that is one hell of an accomplishment.

I agree...Turco i see as the kind of guy who would step in and calm a young player like beach down.

What i meant by mentor for crawford was that Crawford can watch and see what Turco does on and off the ice so he knows exactly what it takes to be a good goaltender in this league

Everything in here sounds good...except the Turco calming Beach statement. I want someone else to be in charge of this, not a goalie.

Okay now that we got a goalie for less money, I hope the team is set. I have Blackhawks crowded around the Cup for wallpaper on my PC, and half the players in the pic are gone.

Right- forwards have a line about goalies: something along the lines of that they have to have a screw loose to play that position. So, Sharp/Toews might be a better fit for that guy.

I like the signing - it seems a little like the Andre Dawson signing some years back.

I think they will go after another D-man -forgot where I read it -seems like the Trib.

Other than Niemi all the playes that carried the load and led us to the cup are still on the team... and we have a very capable and possibly better replacement for Niemi. Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Hossa, Sharp, Hammer, Campbell, Bolland, and Brouwer... find a team with that kind of talent and get back to me. There are teams close to us in talent now that we are not as deep but we are as good as it gets as far as top line talent.

Exactly right. As an aside, kinda, I am still baffled Gillis/AVN named Loungo captain. While he may be an awesome locker room presence with amazing leadership skills, a goalie, in my opinion, has no place holding the official "C" (as it's technically in the rules) nor be able to fulfill the responsibilities as he's never on the bench.

Edit: I like the idea of Sharpie in this role - as I trust he has a way that can get the point across that wouldn't be detrimental to Beach.

Yes I agree. I'm very glad we kept Hammer, even at the higher price than was expected.
