Bob Brenly leaves Cubs broadcast booth; replacement TBA

If I had to take a guess, Karros is not a guy the Cubs really want and never were high on him from the beginning.

based on what?

I guess I should read through the thread some, but I'm guessing the biggest sign is that they haven't flat out said that Karros was interviewed.

I think the fact that they are now widening the search beyond guys with obvious Cubs connections is a decent indicator that Karros didn't wow them.

Too bad Vin Scully is so old and doesn't want to leave LA. Ditto with Uecker.

Don't care whether they had ties or are familiar though. Just that they don't suck.

Via Bleacher Nation re: DeShaies:

“Jim Deshaies had some tough shoes to fill when he took over the Astros analyst spot from Larry Dierker. But let’s just say, as J.D. settles into his second decade as the Astros TV analyst, that he has not only surpassed Dierker, he has perhaps surpassed every other analyst in baseball. The former starting pitcher knows the ins and outs of the game, from pitching to hitting to fielding to strategy. Best of all, he’s not a homer, and if the good guys goof up, he’ll let you know how and why. And then there’s his quick wit and his ability to throw out a Seinfeld reference or obscure pop culture trivia at a moment’s notice. Nothing gets past Deshaies, and, if you pay attention, you’ll learn more from him than just about any baseball geek in the country.”

Speaking of Cubs legends that eventually could be a guy that could do it, Sam Fuld should have a job in the media when he decides to stop being a AAAA player because the guy is really smart. He has an article somewhere out there on the internet that is really interesting.

Again I just hope that it is someone tolerable.

Maybe it was his interview on FanGraphs where he said the Cubs didn't understand OBP?

No there is something that Fuld actually wrote himself that is out on a site that wasn't one that I can remember, but yeah that is part of why I say Fuld would be an interesting guy as someone who is interested in SABR but played as well.
