Lopez is only 28...I guess that part of the deal isn't quite as bad. Still don't know how he'd be used in Hoiball.

For what it's worth (nothing at all), I stopped wearing D.Rose shoes to play basketball in for the first time since 2012. Two days later, he's traded. The replacement shoes? KD's.

Huh? Huh?

I wasn't against trading Rose, but I too feel like we could have gotten a slightly better deal. I feel like Paxson and Phil Jackson knowing each other had something to do with Rose going to NY.

I dont know about this trade, I feel like they kinda settled for too little. I dont know where this team is going, and really really hope that Gar/Pax has some sort of plan.

Gar/Pax have never really had a plan, I don't think that's gonna change

I had come to terms that this was going to happen but now that it has, it sucks. Rose should have been doing what Lebron is doing right now and bringing championships to his hometown.

Sad day to be a Chicagoan.

Exactly, we traded for role players off a bad Knicks team. I know rose is not what he once was but seriously, we even gave up a draft pick. Why couldn't we get a draft pick? Only thing I can think of is gaining more cap space

This was about as dumb of a move as you could make. You don't get anything of value in return. Instead you take on another teams liabilities and hamper your future flexibility.

And to anyone saying there's nothing to suggest we aren't moving Lopez's contact: there is nothing to suggest we are. Just the opposite, we just traded for him and he's currently on our team. Thus, the suggestion is that he's not going anywhere.

Wow, I did not realise that Lopez contract was that big or that long. This looks more horrible than I thought. Would have been better to keep Rose and just let his contract expire.

The only real positive piece we got was Grant.

I wouldn't rag on Lopez so quick. He was a HUGE fan favorite in New York. He also was 5th in the league in offensive rebounds, the BIGGEST deficiency in the Bulls front court this year, while only playing 27mpg. He was also top 10 in blocks. While admittedly, his contract is not great, it's less than what Tristan Thompson makes and both players are pretty comparable in return. I think fans are going to come to love RoLo's all out effort on every play this coming season.

D Rose makes his way back to the all star game. #calledit

Wouldn't be surprised at all. Rose has been preparing for his retirement for a few years now and his rehab has been geared towards this season and the following off season. All the games he has sat out have been so he can be as healthy as possible for this contract year. He will likely have the best season he has had since his first knee injury, get a huge contract from someone, then never have another good season the rest of that contract. He said all he needed last off season when he started talking about his next contract. Getting one more big contract is all he cares about.

Not sure why folks here think that the Bulls should have gotten more for a broken down, former shell of an MVP with no guarantee of the new team signing him long term even if he somehow reclaims his former legs.

I can only speak for myself, and I don't think the bulls should have gotten more. They just shouldn't have set themselves back with the trade. Instead of having 21m open up in cap space next year, they have only 7 m basically. And the talent they got in return is awful. I.e. the bulls didn't get a return. They lost flexibility, talent, and youth.

In regards to Lopez' contract:

He's going to make $13.5 million this year. Would you rather have his contract, or Pau (assuming he opted in) + Noah (assuming they resigned him)?

Forman said that this deal helps the team move towards Hoiberg's style of basketball.

Anybody want to explain how the heck this trade did that?

What is the point of cap space if we can never get a big time FA to get here. When have we ever made our mark and picked up a alpha through FA. This team will be bad but hopefully younger core going forward. I see more moves coming.
