David Stern is like the wizard of oz pulling lever and pushing knobs behind his evil curtain.

The Man Behind the Curtain.wmv - YouTube

The great and powerful Wizard of basketball should give the bulls the championship because its good for the league.

Kind of like he gave rose the mvp last season....:troll:...just kiddin...ain't I a stinker?

Cavs owner wanted trade blocked

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert called the New Orleans Hornets’ proposed trade of Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers a “travesty,” and urged NBA commissioner David Stern to put the deal to vote of the league’s 29 owners in an email obtained by Yahoo! Sports. Gilbert sent the email to Stern, deputy commissioner Adam Silver and a handful of Gilbert’s ownership peers on Thursday.

The following is the email in its entirety:

Commissioner,

It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.

This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.

Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.

I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).

I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.

I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.

When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Dan G.

An NBA spokesman said owners “didn’t kill the deal,” instead citing “basketball reasons,” for why the league office blocked the trade.

Lol Dan Gilbert is the truth! Did he also write that he guarantees the Cavs will win a title before Chris Paul on the Lakers?

I don't see how it was in the leagues best interest to cancel the trade.

it favored the hornets, rockets and the lakers for the future.

I thought it was a fair trade for everyone.

Weird...

Translation - Stern wants C.P. to go to his Knicks.

If anything the Hornets got the most. They got alot of players that would keep them a playoff team.

The Lakers could come away a winner but it was also a huge gamble for them if Paul leaves after the season.

They make is sound like the are protecting the Hornets but in reality it could end up killing the franchise. Whether they like it or not Paul is not resigning with them so now they will get nothing.

yeah I know.. that's why I don't get it. If thhat trade went through, the hornets are still a playoff team. Scola, odom, and martin are solid offensive players. And they have okafor.

Now.. if the league doesn't allow the Hornets to trade paul, he'll just walk at the end of the season and the hornets will blow. That just makes it worse for the NBA.

But I guess this happened to prevent small market teams trading their star to a big market team.

I think this is the most the Hornet would have gotten for Paul... And IMO this trade makes them a worse team...But if they would have followed up with a trade for D12 then it would have been fucking scary...

This is a PR nightmare for Stern and his posse I wonder if we will get more details today

Awful business move for the NBA coming off of a labor issue.

New Orleans made out REALLY well in that deal, and even Houston (who got the "worst" of it) still ended up with Pau Gasol.

Now, Paul, if he is forced to stay, leaves New Orleans after this season and the Hornets get nothing.

Brilliant!

I think anyone not blinded for the fact the Lakers are getting him think its a good deal. Also to me it doesnt really make the Lakers that much better..they lose a key piece to their front court and Bynum is often injured. Of course they could set up a deal for Dwight Howard, but other than Bynum, LA can't offer much.

Rockets get to replace Yao, Hornets get some good key pieces in return and can rebuild their roster with what they receive. Its the best deal the Hornets could have gotten for Paul in my opinion.

Yeah, but the deal still favored the lakers and it would've been bad for the league. As someone has stated before, the NBA was basically asking the owners of every other team to subsidize another potential lakers dynasty.

The league would've lost $21 Million in revenue sharing from the lakers because of all the salaries they would've dumped in the deal.

So, in essence the lakers would've gotten a young MVP caliber PG to pair with an MVP caliber SG and saved $21 Million in revenue sharing in the process.

Yeah, that was a great deal.
