I think anyone not blinded for the fact the Lakers are getting him think its a good deal. Also to me it doesn't really make the Lakers that much better..they lose a key piece to their front court and Bynum is often injured. Of course they could set up a deal for Dwight Howard, but other than Bynum, LA can't offer much.

Rockets get to replace Yao, Hornets get some good key pieces in return and can rebuild their roster with what they receive. Its the best deal the Hornets could have gotten for Paul in my opinion.

The Hornets would've taken on massive salaries and would've been in the luxury tax area.

Not a good deal when you're asking the other owners to pay more money out to make sure the lakers compete more years.

Yeah, but the deal still favored the lakers and it would've been bad for the league. As someone has stated before, the NBA was basically asking the owners of every other team to subsidize another potential lakers dynasty.

The league would've lost $21 Million in revenue sharing from the lakers because of all the salaries they would've dumped in the deal.

So, in essence the lakers would've gotten a young MVP caliber PG to pair with an MVP caliber SG and saved $21 Million in revenue sharing in the process.

Yeah, that was a great deal.

Okay? Suppose they decide to shed contracts anyways? The NBA then loses that money still. I know the reply is going to be they wont shed contracts without getting a good return. Probably true, but just say if they did. Its selfish of owners to oppose that just because LA saves some money in the short term which they will then put back into the revenue sharing pocket within a matter of years, because its what LA does. These idiots need to stop thinking the short term line all the time and think long term for once.

I see Gilbert's point. I don't fully agree with him, but he isn't totally wrong. The real problem here, is that New Orleans has a poor means to provide incentives for competition. Right now they have no real owner, leading to messes like this, as well as more problems in the future.

There was a plan mid-season last year from local entrepreneurs to develop a team co-op, similar to how the Green Bay packers have different layers of owners and public shares. I don't know what happened to it, but it would have given the Hornets and their fans a bit of liberation from this nonsense. Those who are invested in making the Hornets a winning team should deal with and decide how they want to approach problems, like the CP3 saga.

So the lakers getting a top flight PG is great for the league?

My guess is David Stern opposes such an action.

.

Everyone keeps saying that but if Dwight refuses to extend anywhere but LA Bynum and possibly World Peace are better than nothing

I'm hating that ESPN is covering this from the lakers POV and not telling the real logistics of the deal.

That's naive for one. Everyone knows the Lakers are going to make a run at Howard and give him a huge new deal that would put them right back into the luxury tax.

For two, the owners just all agreed to this new CBA like 5 minutes ago. So the Lakers now using the new CBA, that all the owners just agreed to be a part of is kind of the entire idea of the deal.

I think it's stupid to have owners agree to a deal and the new CBA then the very first deal that happens...scream foul about it and have Stern nix the deal because they think it's unfair.....when they just signed on the dotted line obviously feeling the new CBA was pretty damn fair.

Stupid bullshit.

So the lakers getting a top flight PG is great for the league?

They lose a front court. Who is going to be their PF? And when Bynum goes down with another injury, who goes there? They lose Odom and Gasol in that deal. They would need a good addition in the front court to be able to win it all. They'll be a good team (They still are a good team without Chris Paul right now), they'll be a contender, but I dont see them dominating the league just because they get Chris Paul. If they were keeping Gasol, then that'd be a different story.

According to sources, Dwight wants to go to New Jersey(Brooklyn) for some strange reason.

I find it hilarious that the owners are claiming the top teams are being "greedy" by trying to stock pile talent....but their entire issue with it is losing money for their limp dicked franchise.

Who is being the greeedy ones again?

Im sure itd be different if the deal didnt get nixed

Maybe, maybe not. I dont see why Dwight still wouldnt want to go to LA though. Since Chris Paul fell through they can offer Gasol and Odom and whatever for Dwight. Or get Houston involved in another 3 way deal.

Stern and Silver need to go.

Last night's press conference with Silver taking softball questions on player age restrictions shows that he can't handle the pressure of stepping in for Stern.

With our luck, Stern would slip in and name Donald Sterling as the Commissioner before he resigned.

Hahaha. I'm sure one of the guys in the league office will be the next commissioner (Who decides that anyways?)

Well from what I understand the Players Assocation hates Donald Sterling. But yeah, I don't know how that battle is going to go to decide next commissioner.

I think it's about time we start a fan campaign and spread rumors about a new League Commissioner.

I'll start... Dan Hesse, next NBA commish! :)
