Which is why what whom ever told you one game, working within the AHL I assume, was so idiotic. One game, ALA Colin Asshole, will never solve the problem.

I have yet to read anything different than what I was if he is sent down to the AHL. Everything I have read assumes he stays up with the Wings.

I was talking about who ever told you he should receive a 1 game suspension. If that was someone in the IH organization I have to think they shouldn't be working for a professional club if that's their opinion. That’s part of the problem, and why hits like that continue even after substantial consequences have been levied.

Not sure if anyone has shared the link to Shanahan's detail of the hit and penalty leveled.

I think this is a terrific explanation;

No kidding.... Its as if Shanny is doing videos for each suspension... love it!

Anyways, definitely well-explained and worth the amount, even though I still think pre-season doesn't matter.

I posted Clark McArthurs suspension in the NHL Suspension Thread. Earily similar to the conversation in this thread. All the way to the pussy Wangs not going after him, and Babcock not saying it was Ablicators fault, or the Onis was on him.

Then David Amber tweets this---

#Leafs Clarke MacArthur re: suspension 'soon there won't be hitting in the game..guys will be scared to finish checks'

While that may be true, just don't TARGET the head, target the body!

Right, it's that simple. Some people and players seem to have a problem with it because it means limiting the effectiveness of some players. But when those type of players pull those bullshit dirty hits, everyone is up in arms how they should be out of the game, how there's no room in the game for that, blah blah blah, that's the talk. Now when measures come along to try and do that, now they're crying about it ruining the game. It can't be both ways.

Kubina served what 2 games for BLATENTLY elbowing Bolland in the head? Well that hit cost this team almost making they playoffs, but most likely ousting the Canucks in the first round.

and that was NOT a hockey play. It was an elbow in the middle of no where for nothing! **** em, I don't care. Goes for the Hawks too. You hit anyone in the head, when you can decide to make another hit, **** you. Take some time off and lose some money.

Ken Holland said on NHL HOME ICE , that he was not going to start up in the NHL , but latter in the season he was planning on calling him up.

I think I prefer it the way the AHL is handling it. What if he never gets called back up to NHL?

This way the punishment is immediate and certain. BTW, talked to one person in the organization in they think it is garbage that he got a 8 game suspension. One game maybe............. just repeating what I heard.

Heard on NHL on the fly that he will have to serve 5 NHL games regardless of what happens in the AHL. So basically NHL game suspensions are NHL games. Anything the AHL adds to it is just frosting the cake.

That's they way it's always been. NHL Suspensions were not enforced in the AHL. Thought it was strange they'd change that now.

And this is why people think I'm nuts when I say that not only should dirty and reckless play should result in a suspension+cap hit differential be assesed to someone who commits such acts. It may be ham-fisted, but let's be honest, if the league is trying to eliminate dirty play and reckless play, the only way they are going to make any headway into making the players/coaches change their games to have cleaner checks to the body is to be ham-fisted, and make players/coaches realize that this is a team sport, and a dirty or reckless act should hurt your team as much as it hurts the other team.

My $.02.

I completely agree. The problem has always been the too much gray with the suspensions and such. The players and coaches will adjust. They always have. From a safety stand point, I am all over what has transpired so far. Now, those dives...

I agree on the dives. I think those have been seriously under-called, and every time I have seen a diving call, it's usuall a dive that would put Beckham or Luganis to shame, and always a matching tripping penalty.

I think that they at least need to start calling them on their own.

Brendan Smith will now start serving his NHL suspension for the Ben Smith hit. Red Wings recall Brendan Smith from Grand Rapids of theahl. Mike Commodore placed on 7-day IR.

For the divers...only assess the embellsihment/dive penalty, dont give matching minors. When you haev the constant embellisher/diver (see either Sedin....."damn we has another sniper in the Rafters").....start taking the same actions for the guy that gives the head shot.
