He still has some developing to do thats for sure. But in this instance, not being able to see the whole ice -WGN CAMERA WORK SUCKS, I just can't knock him.

Last shot they show him going that way, and if like he said, he didn't see the play, it's understandable.

Maybe this is the year, assuming Bolland is healthy, he breaks out. He finished last season unreal. Commedable at the end of the season when he played with a severed tendon to the LAST possible point before it could jeaprodize his career. Takes balls.

Ron, this was in front of our section of the ice. I immediately thought why is not anybody going after him. I am not just saying that after reviewing the video. Our guys were very slow going over there and frankly I was frustrated right there. Things got heated for a second or two with Keith but that was well after the incident and they were all bundled up in the corner and against the glass.

So he can serve his suspension in the AHL? That's fuckin dumb. If these AHLers are getting suspended, the NHL club should have to lose a roster spot for that amount of games. Basically this doesn't hurt the Wings whatsoever.

I think I prefer it the way the AHL is handling it. What if he never gets called back up to NHL?

This way the punishment is immediate and certain. BTW, talked to one person in the organization in they think it is garbage that he got a 8 game suspension. One game maybe............. just repeating what I heard.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
My only issue with Bickell is that he plays softer than his size would indicate--just like Byfuglien. However, Unlike Buff he seems to have no net game and as soon as his wristers are figured out (like has been aforementioned), his scoring threat is going to be nullified. He may be good at the shutdown role, and the Price is Right™, but you just wish he'd have the snarl to go into the corners and in front of the crease and make the other team pay.

I was given some additional information since I typed this. Smith (Wings) will sit the remainder of the preseason but he will serve the 5 game suspension immediately while at the AHL level. The AHL commented that they will abide by disciplinary actions handed down by the NHL.

WTF... this changes everything. I think that's horrible.

...and I'm not violently upset or anything..lol

Just knocking off some of my own rust/getting ready for the season (and not the same way TCD does)

I love this part of your post, it's so funny to think that all of us ramping up for the season of posting much like the hawks... How many calculators you going to break this year with your stats?

Good point... it sets precedent for future players. From everything I've heard this kid is projected to be a top 4 defender for the Wings in a few years, so he is most likely going to get a shot at the big club. BUT what if it was just some career AHLer that had no chance to make the NHL? Well... he had his chance, did something dumb, and now has to pay out of pocket for it.

I still think if an AHL player gets suspended that the NHL team should in some way get penalized.

No calculators. I hired a few chinese people - they're good at math.

Will I be suspended for racist comment?

I understand your frustration with Bickell, but how can you be frustrated with him and then defend Stalberg so vehemently? Especially when your arguments usually contain #25's numbers, Bickell did play with the better talent a lot of the year but so did Stalberg, and one has better numbers.

Here's why. Stalberg's biggest asset/element he brings to the Hawks, is his speed. And he skates hard/brings it when he hits the ice. Yes, he was snakebitten/missed some goals last year, but I think his speed creates opportunites, helps on the forecheck, backs defenders up, and draws penalities. He needs to improve on both bluelines (puck in/puck out)...and would like to see him finish more. But he brings his speed to this team. I thought in the preseason he's finished some scoring chances, and created others - has looked pretty good and has gotten good reviews from coaches.

Bickell's biggest asset - is his size. For a team that lost that (Byfuglien, Ladd)...one would think he'd bring the size to board battles, net prescence, and in physicality. He's not fast, not a playmaker..not aggressive...so he brought 17g with a 500k salary. So with that, I can see the value - absolutely. I don't see anything else he brings to the table than that. Haven't seen anything impressive out of him in the preseason to think he's taking a step forward, don't think he's scored, and have heard the coach say he needs to show something.

Then this is new this year. In previous years they did not adhere to the NHL suspensions.

As for your other comment remember you were FACING the hit. As would I have been had I been in my seats. These guys, minus Bolland were all coming from behind. Most of them, other than Bolland probably didn't see the hit. Just as Bickell said he thought he was tripped. So when they realized what had happened it was really too late.

I think there is a lot of jumping to conclusions of what these guys saw from the on ice agle they were at. Which, other than Bolland was from behind. From your vantage point Chris you saw it from the front angle. Not to mention looking down at it.

Bickell said he did not see it, thought Smith was tripped. I'd believe that as he was well behind the play/hit. I have no problem with what happened after. I would if I thought anyone but Bolland knew what had really happened.

I also agree with PMX that Bickell has yet to use his greatest weapon, his size. Brouwer did, but then often forgot he had skill as well. I'd have rather they kept Brouwer and dealt Bickell, but that's just me.

Whom ever you spoke with is an idiot. You can tell him I said so. It was a reckless play. Intent, no, but very reckless. He could have taken the body instead of going for the knock out hit, which is what he was doing, and which is exactly what they are trying to get away from. Wonder if that person, hockey operations I assume will stay in the AHL for ever with that mentality.

I would rather he have to STAY in the NHL and serve his suspension before going down. Costing the team a roster spot for those games.

That player should be mandated to the current NHL roster until his suspension as expired. Costing that specific NHL team the roster spot for those games. Then he could be sent back.

Serving it in the AHL big fucking deal. As if the NHL team really gives a shit. Dumb rule if that's really true, which I have been able to find NOTHING on. It was not that way in previous seasons.

And it should be game day roster spot, not just knocking down the 23 man to 22 man!

I haven't found anything on it either... I was just taking what IHF said as fact as he knows a lot more about the AHL than I.

Another example of what Bickell or SOMEONE should have done after the dirty hit by Brendan Smith. This happened last night when Eric Nystrom slew foots Taylor Fedun into the boards and ends up breaking Fedun's right leg:

Nystrom is lucky the officials jumped on the Oiler player's back instantly... but at least SOMEONE showed signs of sticking up for their teammate.

I was told it came down in a memo this week from the AHL. If wrong, as stated, I am just repeating what I was told. I tend to trust this individual in these discussions.
