I thought I had read somewhere that Tallon's team was way under the cap floor- so taking on a guy like Campbell would have made sense for Florida.

Moving a 7+ million cap hit, as well as subtracting out what Brouwer was going to cost (adding back in a guy that can perform to Brouwer's level -or close enough to it - say, Bickell -) .

Those were some pretty good moves, and provides the team which already had had some flexibility already anyways ... allows even more, with the impending free agency period.

Too bad that Montreal resigned Markov -that would have been a nice fit.

This is incredible.

From salary cap hell last off season to having a great group of stars locked up with a lot of room to play with today.

I can't even put in to words how great it is to know we never have to mention Brian Campbell's contract ever again.

Amazing.

The somewhat rhetorical question I have on Olesz, is:

Is it really that big of a deal if the guy makes the team or ends up in Rockford?

I'm sure the deal involved Chicago needing to take a bad contract back to unload a worse one. I'm also sure, that Chicago would have preferred draft picks for the guy (or even nothing). Nothing against Campbell as a player, but Dale was a little too loose with the contracts (I understand the Campbell thing, even sort of understand the Huet thing at the time -but in retrospect, Huet was exactly what the team did not need at the time... apparently Tallon expected the team to have continued on floundering -when he decided to commit that type of money and years in the UFA contracts).

According to a article on TSN.

"Olesz as a 25-year-old, the buyout cost would only be at one-third the cap hit, spread out over the next six seasons.

Theoretically, that would leave the Blackhawks on the hook for a little under $650,000 for the next six years, instead of more than $7-million to Campbell, still leaving Chicago much more financial flexibility than they've had recently."

Can't argue it not being worth it. People could complain there was nothing gotten for the still very good player in Campbell but that is 7 Million opened up with 1 roster spot lost.

what we got in return is a huge chunk of money taken off of the books. that is fine by me.

yea, on the hawks website...its terrible
I don't get what makes it bad. :smh: I've been on it for a long time and the mods and members are cool people.

The only thing that blows is when doucher fans and Nuck trolls start bombing the threads.

Of course, though since the business model of the team is all about creating bandwagoners, and hoping for them to stick....

the official boards are going to be like bandwagon central.

You know I hate you guys, as you made me log in just to see how many posts I had there all time ...

turns out it was 23.

Which was like 20 more than I remembered...

I do remember why it was that I left too, (I'm sure Tbo's effects would have gotten to me but), I recognised there was a guy I had run into at IHL hockey games in KC -and, he struck me as a wannabe then (and nothing had changed). The guy was older than me, claimed to play hockey (maybe he did -but I doubted it). Since there was only one indoor year round rink in KC then and never cold enough to flood parking lots like in Illinois -you tended to get an idea who actually showed up... and that guy didn't.

The guy now has like 15000 posts there... I don't think I have that many posts net on all of the boards I have ever been on in the 11 or so years that I've been on the internets (ok I probably do ... but whatever :D ).

Edit: will give Tbo a thx for "motivating" me to research that... I hope he never does that again to me :D. As they say in Oz -that was a bit of a bastard move, mate. :fake indignation off:

The mods merge everything. It's annoying.

They think they own the board there.
