Die-hard fan was the word I was originally thinking of in place of "true fan."
Because myself as a longtime die hard Bulls fan. I don't respect fans like you. Guys that want to celebrate the winning, but don't stick around and talk down about the team when they aren't.
It's like people saying they are both Cubs and Sox fans. You can't be both. Die hard Sox fan since 83.
Not every girl who has a Justin Bieber poster in her room would throw herself in front of a bus just to have a chance to see him in person.
Aren't there different levels of fandom? Is it diehard or nothing? If you haven't been able to tell-I'm not a big NBA fan. Is there anything wrong with that? I don't bash or hate the NBA like many hockey fans do but I'm just not enthusiastic about basketball. Overall, I like this Bulls team because of the work ethic of DR and the overall dedication to winning that the team has shown over the last year plus. If they had a bunch of knuckleheads it wouldn't matter how good they were-I wouldn't like them.
I call them casual observers.Fair-weather fans are still rightful fans. They just aren't as big of a fan. Like #19 said, there are levels of fan-dom.

Nothing wrong with it, but I just don't respect it. I'm die hard or nothing. I hate fair weather fans.
No, it isn't strong. Especially when you try to talk to these guys about the team, the history and things that happened and they look at you like you're speaking German.I'm going to give you respect even though I don't agree with you.
Hate? Really? Isn't that a little strong?

I don't call them fans. That's just me.
Agreed. If they enjoy watching the team, and they give the team local t.v. ratings, and/or pay for tickets, it helps the team.
Regardless of whether they are "fans" or not, they deserve our (die-hard's) respect.
We die-hards love the team for who they are, regardless of whether they suck or they are great.
For those band-wagon fans who grab their nuts and hate on other teams- they deserve zero respect.
Anybody who nut grabs and hates on other teams just to be a dick (die-hard, fair-weather, or band-wagon) doesn't deserve respect.

imagine being a bobcats fan. That must suck.
But they have the greatest player ever.... playing the role of the worst gm in the league...
lol
He isn't GM, just the owner. lol

Who were you watching during the Marcus Phizer days? There is nothing wrong with being a fair weather fan in my opinion. If watching the Bulls lose 65 out of 82 games in an dismal season makes a die hard fan...count me out.
And teams attain fans by being successful. Some cities like winners, and once the novelty of a team's existence wears off, people get bored with losing. I became a Bulls fan because Jordan was here, I became a NBA fan because of Jordan.
Not a lot of thought is needed people. This IS NOT A RELIGION. This is sports, not that complicated.
Who were you watching during the Marcus Phizer days?
I was watching the Bulls.
I was there during the Tim Floyd/Bill Cartwright coaching days. It wasn't fun, but I'm a die hard, so I stick with my team, win or lose. I just don't respect fans that are only fans when they win. Yo have to go through the rough spots in order to appreciate the great times.
In my opinion.
