you think so? i think he and a backup perimeter guy packaged could get a defensive minded big man...

i dont think rip is necessarily valuable..but for what is needed..i think he could suffice

I don't mean in terms of trade value I mean in terms of usefulness to the team. I think packaging him along with either Brewer or Korver could get a defensive specialist big man perhaps...

(@bolded) duh i know he'll get more....but having tyreke provides financial flexibility for a few years

when do you think he would be extended?

He'd be extended as soon as possible? Not sure how long his contract is...should look that up. I think he could be signed to an extension as soon as the end of this year?

This also assumes that the whole Rose/Evans backcourt works out nicely and whatnot so that it would actually make sense to keep him.

only issue is that with korver you sacrifice 3 point shooting..brewer you sacrifice defense

lol it's one or the other. You pretty much have to pick which one you wanna give up because there's no way we're keeping everyone unless Reinsdorf says ok to go into the tax (which I have no confidence of).

well that sucks lol

i'd pick brewer then....because you still have a great defender in deng on the wing..

and i am confident that 'reke could improve his D under thib's system(more confident than i am in his outside shot)

Yeah I'd probably keep Korver to at least have someone on the team that you can rely on from 3. Deng's still a meh option imo and Rose is all over the place still. Other than those guys it's like...JL3 and that's pretty much it. Bleh.

At the very least, Thib's defensive system could cover for him more so than him learning to shoot from the outside. It will hurt a little not having a guy like Taj who can get those weak side blocks really well, but maybe the rookie will be good at it. Again, idk.

The thing is though, when you face the Heat, how do you defend Wade and Lebron without Brewer? I guess you hope that Evans improves enough defensively to not get torched by Wade. You already know Deng will be on Lebron for every second he's in the game.

ya, i was thinking about that too(regarding the last paragraph)

that's why i am apprehensive on trading brewer as well

thibs i think, could seriously help out tyreke and with his size i think tyreke would be fine

i mean, thibs has worked well to improve some other players, why can't he do the same for evans(i think evans has good physical tools, and i dont know that he's ever been pushed to really commit himself defensively)

i think on the other side of it, you have now rose and evans, who can both create offense along with some 3 point scorers...the whole floor is opened up offensively....you have two guys who are going to draw defensive attention because they can create and i think chicago's offense will benefit

that's huge...because the bulls need another guy to create

Heat still have 3 really good perimeter defenders though...*sigh*

But it definitely helps a lot having Evans for sure.

boozer will get more offensive boards because noah won't be clogging the paint to get them....i think boozer would benefit rebounding wise

:obama:

So Noah is keeping Boozer from being a good offensive rebounder? Boozer's never been a great offensive rebounder & not having Noah next to him would actually HURT his numbers, as defenders are more concerned with keeping him off the boards than Booz.

Also, how is Booz going to be getting all these offensive rebounds when he's 17 feet away from the hoop?

basketball is now a guard's game...

Yes and no. I would say it's a perimeter player's game, not just guard's.

Here's the real question: does anyone expect the Bulls to win a title with the Noah/Boozer front court?

I'm all for trading away Noah, Taj, Deng, and #29 for lottery picks/players that we at least think we can build around Rose to give us a winner in 2014-2017 (a reasonable window).

(If we keep #29 and take Quincy Miller at #29, losing Taj will be forgotten by November)

except, again, noah clogs the lane to get offensive boards..

boozer was a good offensive rebounder in utah because he didn't have a guy like noah who was constantly looking inside to get the board

i think his rebounding numbers would go up

Also, how is Booz going to be getting all these offensive rebounds when he's 17 feet away from the hoop?
lol he isn't always that far...

he still gets a few offensive boards a game even with noah in the lane and boozer being "far away" from the hoop

plus if he's 17 feet from the basket and getting defensive attention because of his rebounding, um, wouldn't that open up the inside for the other rebounding post?

Yes and no. I would say it's a perimeter player's game, not just guard's.

ehhh...there are more ball controlling SGs and PGs than there are SFs(minus guys like lebron, carmelo, and durant...that creates a distorted perception imo)

if you dont have a good point guard and/or an off-creating guard, you are in serious trouble in today's NBA

there is more PG depth in the NBA than there has ever been

:rolling:

So it's pointless to have 2 good rebounders on the same team? What the hell is your logic here? Noah isn't clogging the lane to get boards. You're making it out like he's boxing Boozer out too. :lmao:

lol he isn't always that far...

The majority of Boozer's offensive production is done 15-20ft away from the hoop. I'm too lazy to look up the advanced stats, but all you need to do is watch the Bulls play & you know I'm right.

he still gets a few offensive boards a game even with noah in the lane and boozer being "far away" from the hoop

It's tougher to box out 2 good rebounders than 1. I fail to see how this proves your point.

plus if he's 17 feet from the basket and getting defensive attention because of his rebounding, um, wouldn't that open up the inside for the other rebounding post?

Yet the "other rebounding post" is "clogging the lane" to get these rebounds? You just contradicted your whole point.

Boozer got more rebounds in Utah because he was the primary rebounder. He's not that on the Bulls because Noah is. And even Asik gives Noah a run for his money as the best overall rebounder on the team. Taj is no slouch either. With that many good rebounders on 1 team, it's not a surprise that Boozer's numbers would dip, but it has nothing to do with "clogging the lane".

no but having noah in the lane constantly trying to get offensive boards makes it tougher to get boards for boozer...the fact that noah is the better rebounder attracts the defense to make sure he doesn't get on the glass

so technically, he does clog the lane

not 100% sure on the bolded

while boozer does his damage offensively outside the post, is it to say that if another player were to take a shot boozer would be unable to be in adequate position for the offensive board? Is he always 15-20 feet away?

don't you think this is when noah could play a part in boozer not getting the rebound?

though i think the fact that boozer does play outside a bit does affect rebounding, i won't deny it in some aspect

the difference now is that,of course,he isn't the primary rebounder because noah is and the fact that noah does not take his man nearly as far out as okur did

however in light of my first point to this specific response, i think boozer COULD try to crash the offensive boards more knowing that he'd be the primary offensive rebounder, which means after another player takes a shot...as well as looking more to score inside..this is speculation though:shrug:

It's tougher to box out 2 good rebounders than 1. I fail to see how this proves your point.
my fault, i didn't think that one through lol

Yet the "other rebounding post" is "clogging the lane" to get these rebounds? You just contradicted your whole point.
he wouldn't necessarily be if boozer gets more defensive attention if he's the better rebounder

it's not just about what noah does directly...it's also about attracting defense

Boozer got more rebounds in Utah because he was the primary rebounder. He's not that on the Bulls because Noah is.
correct...that's definitely part of it..i never said noah clogging the lane was the absolute reason that boozer got less boards..there are multiple factors

And even Asik gives Noah a run for his money as the best overall rebounder on the team.
valid point, i think omer's ability could help alleviate losing noah, though he isn't technically a starter, that's where getting a guy like drummond would be nice as a starter

With that many good rebounders on 1 team, it's not a surprise that Boozer's numbers would dip, but it has nothing to do with "clogging the lane".

"clogging the lane" is part of it..there are multiple factors..i agree with your overall point

boozer took about 6 shots per game at the rim up to 9 feet(we can argue about this till our faces turn blue, but i think for the purpose of this thread that is considered an area of good position for offensive rebounding)

he took 7 shots per game beyond 10 feet

boozer, last year and for alot of his career, took around 8-9 shots from the rim and up to 9 feet, while taking 5-6 outside of 10

Hoopdata Player Stats - Carlos Boozer

it was interesting to see that boozer took less shots in the lane this year than he had in years, partly because he has taken less shots, but partly because he is looking for his shot more and he has guys like noah and taj who do more inside work

7-6 is a majority. Yet somehow being in good position to rebound he's being boxed out by Noah, who's clogging the lane hogging up all the boards. Noah gets more offensive rebounds because he's a BETTER OFFENSIVE REBOUNDER.

This "clog the lane" stuff reminds me of early in the season when someone on here said Boozer gets alot of "selfish rebounds".

We're talking about this year, not his career. His shot selection still doesn't change the fact that Noah is the better offensive rebounder.

This is by Thib's design. Boozer's role on this team now is the pick n pop guy. He's been very good at it, despite what the majority of fans will have you believe. It's helped free up the lane & better space the floor. And you're right Noah & Taj are doing more of the post work. Taj actually has the best post moves but he lacks good lower body strength to really knock his defender back. Thankfully he's really long so he can shoot over the top.

7 out of 13 is barely a majority lol

boozer has a perimeter shot..but up until this year he took more shots in the lane

i think you're intimidated by the fact i said "clogging", as if i'm using it as a derogatory term

i'm not...

noah isn't boxing out boozer, i never said that lol..

lol..exactly my point

A. i know this is about this year, it was an observation not trying to make an assertion

B.who said noah wasn't a better offensive rebounder than boozer?

agree with a lot of this

having a pick and pop big man(stretch 4) helps to make open space to drive in the post....that's what boozer does

i would think that in a trade where noah and taj were gone and guys like dalembert and drummond join the team(complete hypothetical) that thibs might consider having boozer do some more face-up posting

i think overall, boozer will rebound more if noah and taj are gone, and with drummond and maybe a big man FA along with a good backup rebounder in omer and getting a good rebounder at SG like tyreke, i think the bulls might lose a little rebounding but i think they'd be ok...jmo though

do i think noah is a rebounding cancer? absolutely not...he makes timely plays, timely rebounds, has energy etc.

maybe that's what you were thinking i was implying
i have great appreciation for him..

Would love to see Chicago sign Brandon Roy. He had the same knee op/treatment as Kobe Bryant and look how Kobe returned. Taking the risk on Roy for a cheap contract is well worth the risk. Plus, if he does get back to his best, playing alongside Rose, Deng, Boozer and Noah, we can seriously start talking championships.

A mate of mine (even though both of us live in Australia) is a Portland fan and really think Roy is worth the risk.
