Can anyone honestly look at the rosters of the 4 Championship teams that competed to be in the Super Bowl, and think we're only a Caleb Williams away?

The thing is, people try to hide and dodge here to win pissing contests, and I try to hold them to their actual stances.

Case in point - back when the Texans were in the playoffs, some of the same people who are now saying "no one said Caleb Williams alone will get the Bears to the Super Bowl" were replying to people who wanted to trade the #1 pick for a haul with "See, CJ Stroud won a playoff game and he doesn't have good players or coaches!"

And now, because its a few weeks later, we're supposed to pretend they didn't make those arguments because NOW its more convenient when called out to say "No one said that about Caleb Williams" when they literally were making that exact argument when Stroud won a playoff game, and used that as a rebuttal to the "haul" people?

This isn't some crazy conspiracy theory - this is basic inference 101.

The Caleb crowd moves the goalposts wherever its convenient for them at the moment. They are getting testy because I am pinning them down.

I'll respect anyone who can flat admit the Bears need a lot more help than just Williams to get to a Super Bowl without getting defensive, even if they are in favor of drafting Williams.

But the ones getting angry? They're showing their true colors here as Caleb-bots...
I think the bears need a hell of a lot more than Williams to be a Super Bowl contender, but I definately think Williams should be their pick at # 1

Makes ya think!
That was my argument for keeping Fields all along. The haul of another 4 starting position players that would have come from the trade of the number 1 pick would finally bring the overall talent level up to athe more elite teams. Now, we assume, Williams will be new QB, but he will have less talent around him than Fields would have had. I guess Poles is thinking Williams is so good we won't need them. We will see...

Honestly, I am surprised at the moves Poles made this offseason, and I will say I stand corrected.

I think between the coaching staff and the new additions, Williams has enough to succeed and make the playoffs this year.

I didn't think Poles would be as active in FA as he was...

How about a winning season and possibly playoffs before thinking of winning a Superbowl mkay?
Williams is coming to a 7-10 team with a loaded offense and top5 defense BS incoming

you could have surrounded Fields with the chapionship Steelers roster and he would still have failed

The Bears will break records, specifically having the first rookie QB to ever win a Superbowl...

I kid.

So you’re admitting you’ve been wrong about everything that’s happened this offseason? Thanks we didn’t need you to verify that

You being a dick aside, yes, sorry to burst your bubble, but I am indeed saying I had the wrong read on the offseason.

What part of enormous cap space and his consistent willingness to trade picks for players had alluded you?

"eluded" and it was that I didn't think he would use free agency to beef up the offensive line, nor with all the top receivers in this draft did I think he was going to trade for another legit #1 WR to be across DJ Moore.

I thought these were things that would be addressed in the draft, but he firmly put the Bears into "Win Now" mode.

Oops and why so tunnel visioned? Needs and opportunity is a simple concept. There were many avenues to betterment. Why exclude those that don't fit a narrative due to bias?

Really, you know for a fact that Williams will have enough around him to succeed this year? Based on what, career back-ups at starting center?

Your starting center started every game for the Rams last year and did a good job doing it.

Shelton was the starting center on a playoff team last season. Did you miss that?

We all wanted Fields to be the guy, to take the team to another level, it did not happen. It sucks as the allure of THE HAUL to build the team was a reality in hopes, but the reality in truth is that too often Fields missed open guys (wide open), took unnessary sacks, or waited to long on a throw and caused it to not be completed or go for as much yardage as possible. His playing style also is not sustainable. He did not play every game this year. The Bears have been gifted the assets through last year's trade and this year's FA to build the team and now to even get a QB that so far has shown that he is able to make quick reads, manipulate the pocket, throw in rythm and also create from nothing, as well as when a ball carrier take care of his body.
IT IS OK, WE ALL WANTED FIELDS TO SUCCEED, he didn't and now the Bears are moving on. Embrace it.

I thought it would take the haul to rebuild the rest.

We still have depth issues on this team, but this offseason, Poles went ham and invested in protection and weapons for a new QB, and got him a very QB-friendly OC.

This has the chance to be incredible.
